Many evenings, my Dad and I sit in the kitchen and just catch up on the day's events. He'll tell me about what his boss said, what his co-workers did, and what interactions he has with users. Today, he told me about his buddy, Carl.
Carl lives around the corner from us. He catches the bus from our corner at 6 o'clock every morning. He has two bus transfers before he gets to the bus stop outside work. And from that bus stop, it's a good 100 yards of parking lot to get to the front door of his office building. Usually, my Dad will see Carl on his way to work and give the guy a ride. And sometimes, if Carl is waiting at the bus stop at work, my Dad may give him a ride home. It's nothing official or scheduled.
The past few mornings, my Dad hadn't seen Carl. So, when Dad bumped into him at work today, Dad asked what happened. Turns out that Carl has been catching an earlier bus - at 5:15AM. Why? Carl still didn't have to be into work until 7:30AM. It turns out there's a kid who's been antagonizing Carl. It started out with trash-talking. Then the 14 year old kid started cursing at him. Then it escalated to this kid roughing Carl up.
Oh... I failed to mentioned that Carl's blind. Because of this, he's cautious when moving around... like getting on and off the bus. And this is the reason why this ignorant brat is abusing the man.
Carl spoke to the bus driver, who apparently knows the kid's parents. But what's that really going to do?
When my Dad told me all this, my blood started to boil. What is wrong with kids these days? Why are they so violent and vicious? Why are they so ignorant and obnoxious?
I've noticed that I've been getting more upset by such injustices. For instance, I couldn't sleep the night after I watched The King of Scotland. My blood really boiled that night. I can't fathom people being so cruel and It probably didn't help that I watched Blood Diamond a few nights before that.
