[Character Name] Nai
[Canon] Karneval
[Point Taken from Canon] Before he and Gareki end up on the Circus ship.

[Age] Unknown, although he looks from 11-13
[Gender] Male
[Sexual Orientation] ... Psh, like he knows what that means.

[Eye Color] Red
[Hair Color] White
[Height] 157 cm
[Other] THIS is what Nai truly looks like as a Niji.
[Clothing] Nai's clothing is usually quite simple; involving nothing more than a loose shirt and shorts. Additionally, he always wears the bracelet that formerly belonged to Karoku. It's... best to not try and separate him from it.

[Background] All in all, not many specifics about Nai’s background are known. He first shows up after having been kidnapped in the home of Lady Mine; a supposed member of the defense organization called Circus. The woman seems to have some... Not-so-innocent plans for the young boy, but fortunately she is distracted when her home is broken into by a gang of thieves led by a teen named Gareki. As Mine leaves to go take out the other intruders, Gareki (literally) bursts into her room and finds the captive Nai. After some rather easy negotiating on Gareki’s part, he agrees to take Nai outside in exchange for information on the very special bracelet the boy has in his position... A bracelet that is supposedly the mark of a Circus member.

After a rather frightening battle with Lady Mine, who is actually a monster and most definitely not a real member of Circus, the duo manages to escape. Gareki takes Nai to where he stays, and the strange yet grateful child finally explains the unique bracelet he holds...

According to his account, the bracelet really belonged to a man named Karoku (who everyone automatically assumes is Nai’s brother; although he never actually uses the word). Nai had apparently been living with this man in the forest for as long as he could remember; having a perfectly content and happy life the whole time... That is, until Karoku disappeared; leaving only his bracelet and a trail of "red water" from their home to the ocean. Gareki questions Nai about Circus and even suggests that Karoku could have been captured by them for stealing the piece of jewelry... But the boy knows nothing and automatically begins to assume that if he finds Circus he can find his "brother".

The next day Nai wanders off in search of Circus, but instead he ends up getting framed for murder by a crooked policeman who intends to sell his bracelet for profit. This in turn forces Nai and his babysitterGareki to go on the run. While on a train to their newest destination they happen upon Tsukumo and Hirato who, unbeknownst to the dysfunctional duo, are members of Circus. Nai and Gareki (somewhat) assist in putting down a kidnapping on the train, and then continue on their run from the law... Of course they don’t know that Circus already has its eyes on them.

Through a medical exam later in the manga it is revealed that Nai is in fact Not human at all, but a strange-looking rare creature known as a "niji". Because of this and the boy’s memories of Karoku, it is assumed that the mysterious man actually "created" Nai in his human form. However, nothing else about his birth or creation has been revealed as of yet.
[Personality] In short; Nai literally puts the "nai" in "naïve". The boy is extremely trusting and innocent when it comes to the ways of the world. He doesn’t really understand why one person would want to hurt another or even why someone would go out of their way to protect someone else. Many common words and concepts escape him completely; such as "importance", "family", and even "time". Because of this Nai needs almost constant babysitting in order to function without getting himself lost, kidnapped, or injured. The poor thing is also very easily tricked, although if his instincts warn him otherwise he usually won’t allow himself to be fooled.

Despite his almost annoying cluelessness, Nai is extremely caring and sweet. While he may not always understand what he feels, he has a tendency to either go along with his instincts or follow by example. He is also extremely worried about causing those around him pain and even questions his ability to return the kindness others show him. He is very curious as to what his emotions mean and why he feels them and will often turn to Gareki for guidance. Of course, this curiosity does tend to get him in trouble; as he has the tendency to wander off at even the smallest glint of something interesting and unknown to him.
[Specialties/Abilities] As far as physical strength goes? Nai is... Pretty useless. All right he’s completely useless. The boy really has no powers or abilities that make him stand out in a battle and, due to his fear of hurting others, it’s unlikely that he would really put up much of a fight anyway. But while he wouldn’t be of much use in a scuffle, Nai does have a trait that makes him quite helpful; his extremely sensitive hearing. For example; he is able to hear bombs attached to the train that he and Gareki are on and can even tell when they are about to go off.

It also seems that he has some sort of telepathic connection with Karoku, as the mysterious man is able to speak with him through his dreams. However, whether this is directly Nai’s ability or Karoku’s has not yet been explained.

[Affection] Nai is very affectionate and will attach himself to anyone who seems kind or helpful... Even if they really aren't that nice in reality. Gender and appearance makes no real difference to him when it comes to forming connections, so he'll more than likely have no problem branching out.
[Fighting] Since Nai is usually very peaceful and docile, he would never even consider taking part in a fight unless his friends were in danger. He has no real fighting abilities though, so in the end he wouldn't be of much use anyway...

[Other Facts] Nothing, at the moment~
