Update: Clancy

Oct 16, 2010 22:51

On September 29, I had my beloved cat Clancy put to sleep. It was a very hard decision, I guess they always are, aren't they. The vet cried nearly as much as I did. He was popular at the vet's office. One visit, he purred so loudly that the vet couldn't hear his heart. She said that doesn't happen very often.

He was still purring, still had a tremendously good appetite. But I emptied out litter boxes twice a day, and it still wasn't really enough. He was going through his insulin ($130/bottle) and special diabetic kitty food ($50/bag) at an alarming rate. He was also sort of crabby, at least relative for him. I could tell he didn't feel good most of the time, but he sat on my lap and purred like the best of cats. I miss that very much. Good lap cats are hard to find. He used to hear my car coming up the driveway and greet me at the door. And when I did yoga, he always insisted that the middle of my mat was the perfect place for a nap.

Cordelia is now walking around as if she owns the place. (She used to confine herself to the upstairs or basement, away from Clancy.)

The house is not the same without him. He was a wonderful companion for 14 years.

Sister Rosario and Clancy. He thought she had a very comfy lap.

Owain and Clancy. Clancy was claiming Owain's bed for himself.
