Here is a day-by-day account of my trip in England to those who may be interested. I had a wonderful time although there were some not-so-nice moments (Looking at you, London Underground).
I'll share with you some thoughts I had about MAAN if you like, although agan, I can't guarantee you will like everything I have to say, even though I did enjoy the play as a whole - both times.
I arrived very early Friday morning (about 8:00 a.m.). Got through customs fine. Still not grasping that I am in London. For real. Took the Tube (Picadilly line) from Heathrow to Russell Square (home base, as it were). The hotel was easy to find. - literally a hairpin turn from the station. Here are some pics of my humble London digs -
I tore the bed apart and put the bedspread and two extra blankets under the sheet to make it more comfy. It worked!
A very odd bathroom, but I did admire the clever use of space. Unfortunately, you cannot bend over and if you are a very large person (which luckily I am not), well....
I stayed at The President Hotel, Russell Square, a single at £77 per night (that about $123/night to us Yanks). No fridge, no air conditioning, dedicated 7th floor lift (which did not work the entire time I was there.) The key is attached to a metal rod about 12 inches long. Drop off your key when you leave in the morning, pick it up from the desk when you get back at night.
But --- location, location, location! Ridiculously close to the Tube stop, across the street from a Tesco Express and a Pret a Manger (where I ate most of my meals). Five minute walk to The British Museum and Russell Square Garden. Can't complain.

So, all checked in, everyone is safe and sound, now what? I know! Time to go exploring! I took the Tube to Westminster pier, bought a ticket and took a ride down the Thames towards Greenwich. Spent some time exploring Greenwich - bwah - get it? Time? In Greenwich??? No? Looked around the Naval Academy, wandered around, got lost (which direction is the water?), ate lunch there and came back. A fine time. Beautiful weather, wonderful breeze, relaxing day. Saw Big Ben (well, saw the clock, but heard the bell), Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliment. Learned the names of all the bridges (because travelling should be fun and educational).
Funny surreal moment - came out of the Underground at Westminster, got in line with my ticket for the boat, looked around and Holy Shit! It's Big Ben! For real! Like in the pictures, but for real! I'm really standing in London for real looking at Big Ben! Still not grasping actually being here.
On the way home, I stopped at The British Museum to see an exhibit about relics.
Treasures of Heaven I already knew TBM was open late on Friday nights so it was a perfect way to spend a couple of hours. Rolled on home to navigate the teeny shower stall, talked to bas_math_girl and caz963 on my irritating and cumbersome rented phone (I'm used to my iPhone), set out my clothes for MAAN and Caz.
Nighty-night, Shakespeare!
