First of all, even if you don't watch Fringe, watch the video below the cut, because it's grotesque and beautiful and terrible and one of the loveliest things I've seen on television in quite some time. Minor spoilers for Fringe 3x09 ("Marionette"). I'll provide some quick context too.

What you need to know:
The dancer was a ballerina, when she was alive. She's been dead for some time now, but the man is trying to bring her back to life. In the meantime, he's keeping her body safe. Think about that kind of twisted devotion while you watch this.

And now spoilers up to 3x13 ("Immortality").

WHAT ARE YOU DOING, FRINGE. (The happy bits start on the third paragraph, if you want to skip the griping.)

I swear, if you turn this series into a decision on Peter's part between two women, I'm really not going to be amused. At all. Because way to remove Olivia, beautiful, amazing Olivia (the BOTH of them!) from having any real importance in the narrative. (I don't really expect it to end this way? The show is too fond of curve balls. But the fact that they even made the suggestion grates.) WHATEVER. Peter should fall for Astrid instead, because she's amazing and just as gorgeous, and the Olivias can go and save the world with Nina and Broyles. (I'd invite Walter, but he'll be too busy making a pest of himself around "Astro" and Peter.)

I saw the pregnancy plotline coming from the moment The Observer told Peter "It must be hard to be a father", but that doesn't mean I'm particularly amused by it. I mean, yes? It will almost certainly get Peter back to the other side? Because he's not going to be the man his father was. He's going to want to be there for his kid, even if he wants to commit to our Olivia. Stiiiiiill. It feels trite and cliche'd and I'm creeped out by the idea that maybe Olivia did want an abortion, but now that Walternate's in the picture, that's just not an option.

I also find it interesting that Walternate won't experiment on kids, flat-out. I wonder how much of that is due to Bell's death - there's no one there to encourage him on in quite the same way - and how much of that is due to his having lost his Peter and knowing that pain all too well.

Quietly, quietly, so very quietly, Astrid has grown into this beautiful character who loves Walter, seems to be genuinely engaged and sometimes even enjoys what she does, and who is this incredible pillar that I'm not sure that any of them deserves. I'm willing to let Walter off of the hook here and Broyles probably isn't around enough to get it, Olivia's too wrapped up in the metaplot... Peter might get it. Maybe. Because they're Walter's caregivers, the two of them. Still. Astrid, you're amazing. And I think you know that you're pretty awesome, which makes me even happier. It's too bad the fandom probably neglects you!

Other loves about this show:

-Anna Torv and JR Bourne (CIA Agent Edwards/Martouf) need to do a long, dialogue-filled scene together right now. Oh god, their voices.
-I love that our Olivia wears work-appropriate, wears her hair back as often as (if not more often) than she wears it down, especially in the field, and that she wears minimal make-up. Way to produce an awesome, sexy female character without feeling the need to endlessly "feminize" her
-It drove me up the wall when alt!Olivia was running around in "our" universe wearing all of that make-up. DNW. It works on redheaded/brunette Olivia, because that's how we met her, but it JARS when she's blonde.
-alt!Broyles ;_; Oh man oh man oh man, I hope that someone is able to tell your wife what happened to you, one day. And that Olivia can hold good on her promise, for him alone, because hi, wow, you were such a good, good man.
-
nickelmountain but it best when she called Walter the dark, twisted, emotional heart of the show. This show would be sadly reduced without John Noble, who's absolutely amazing the role. I don't even have words for my how much respect I have for him as an actor, after watching this.
-Is it just me, or has Lincoln Lee failed to make an appearance in our universe? That's weird, when he seems to be such a major player.
-Nina Sharp, you just keep on keepin' on. Everything about you is beautiful and nothing hurts.

In conclusion, this romantic plotline is getting a bit out hand and the show often seems to drag in the middle of its seasons, but when it's on, it's so damn on.
