Quick hit (in-progress) reactions to "Dead Beat", book seven of The Dresden Files. Note I've got the audiobook going, not a paper or digital copy of the text.

ONE OF THE WARDENS IS A KOWALSKI.

I don't really care how he spells it; much like the Kowalskys of Against the Wall, they are OBVIOUSLY related to Stanley Ray Kowalski. All of them.

Also:

"Harry!" Bob said, orange eye lights glowing brightly. "You stole a Warden's cloak!"
[...]
"Oh," Bob said. "So you took it off a body?

(Fascinating and scary as it was to see necromantic!Bob - and honestly, getting Bob backstory was AWESOME - I love him when he's like this, too.)

Also also:

When Luccia was recounting the losses taken by the White Council? AUGH. The tension was so well written and so well read. The horror of it kept hitting me low in the gut. (I'm glad that Ebenezer isn't dead! That was a surprisingly intolerable thought.)

I leave you with one final thought: Polka never dies.
