To those of you who've signed up for rare fandom 'thons: is it a bad idea to sign-up for fandoms whose canon I don't know very well? Right now, the thought is "It's okay! I can play catch up and watch/re-read!" but realism tells me that this might not be the best plan. Thoughts?

Miscellaneous updates. )

Yay, no more paper! \o/

I have to admit, my first thought upon seeing your head-shaving-in-July tweet was, "Oh no, what if you get a sunburn on your scalp!"

Hats, bb. It's a good thing I'm so fond of hats.

In July? Well, that's fair. You've been in my apartment in the summer.

And hey, yes! You've had experience with this! How long do you reckon before it got long enough that I could cut it into a recognizable style, if it came to that?

I've signed up for a number of fandoms at rarewomen that I'm rusty on, too, sooo... we can bemoan our catching up together? \o/

Also, I have this mental image of you as Jess, so my first reaction was like, "omg, that'd be so much hair to shave off!"

I'm not sure I'm signing-up? I mean, I'm prepping all of that, but for all that I'm flush with my SG-1 fic's successful completion, I also did some anxious flailing about when I realised I HAD to write for that particular exchange. So. Hm. But the JILLY fic!

Hee, that's what most LJers tell me. I've actually got wavy red hair in a shaggy, short style.

Congrats on getting the paper over with! Those things can be hellish.

The whole dancing thing sounds fantastic. Never danced myself, but as an audience member I love Contemporary.

Also, the White Collar mid-season premiere was fabulous. El was so bad ass. And Neal and Peter. Tim Dekay did such a great job. I LOVE THOSE CHARACTERS.

It wouldn't have been so bad, but it really fell prey to my anxiety. But it's DONE :DDD

Yes, agreed about being the audience for Contemporary. I feel a little bit in love with Mia Michaels' choreography on SYTYCD and jumped at the chance to try the style here because of it.

How is the chemistry between them so good? HOW?

HORAY FINISHING PAPER :D *\o/*

Shaving your head sounds pretty awesome, tbh, but Idk, your concerns about getting a job are really valid as well so /o\ (lol I also have this mental image with you as Jess xD)

"I'm not sure how a bald or nearly-bald head would be taken at a job interview"

You may be able to turn it to your advantage, if it adds personality to you when you're in interview. For example, if you did it as part of an awareness campaign.

Hooray for being done your paper!

It would be for a costume (an Observer, from Fringe), but I've been looking into fundraisers like Cops for Cancer, which already do this kind of thing every year, hoping the dates will coincide. What do you mean by an awareness campaign?

Ah, I remember you writing somewhere that you were thinking about doing this costume!

Pretty much for charity, except rather than for raising money, the visual aspect is there to provoke questions, which gives you a chance to explain about the cause. Movember began as this, I believe. Fund raising works just as well, though!

Point is, at least as far as the work part goes, you can do it, and have it say something good about you. In that context, it could work for you, and not against you.

Love your spin on it. Thanks for the advice!
