I'm going to skip boring talk about the final i'm taking this evening. on to the good stuff:

The Bodog representative came over to me during the second round of the competition and said he really liked Sweet City Action and proceeded to explain who he was and talk about his travels to all the Bodog cities across the nation. At first, I thought he came up to each band and said about the same thing, but I later observed him hiding either behind the sound booth or at the corner edge of the judge's table almost the entire time. So I thought we had a good chance of proceeding to the next round.

The two winners were announced: Fusebox Funk (awesome!) and Shadow Agency. So my band meets the bodog guy after to ask for some constructive criticism. And he smiled and said something like, "You guys have something unique going for you and you just need to keep doing it. Why would you want to fit in to the type of stuff these guys are looking for? Honestly, the winners in the other cities pretty much are exactly like the winners in this city."

So that was nice.

Composition-wise, we've churned away on our instruments and have four new polished songs. We worked on two other ones but they were thrown out. Also, we totally revamped a very old song to accommodate Hunter's broken arm (he can't strum a guitar but can play bass, keys and ham). The second new song has a jam out middle section with chanting that reminds Hunter and Tyler of a radiohead song. Maybe it was paranoid android? And the newest song is a cool disco dance song!

Classical music-wise: I've found a chamber group to play with around town. Dr. Zach, an honors music professor, orchestrated getting us all together. She's paying Anamika, a Baroque period specialist/professional violinist, to coach us. We're going to play a recovered Flute concerto for quartet harpsichord and flute solo at the Baughman Center. They're going to record it and air it on various radio stations. The group is an intelligent bunch and we speak about a half a dozen languages all together. The first violinist graduated with a degree in Biology and is reseaching at Shands now. The cellist is also in the science field. The violist is majoring in Finance and minoring in Russian. One of them has a very cold, calculating and intense presence that I'm going to have to get used to.

Booking-wise: I'm starting to book regional acts as much as local acts now. Also, I've booked two national acts to play some shows down here. The Dollyrots from Joan Jett's label and Suffrajett on Cobra Music (from Chicago).

Study time.
