Day 67 - The walrus said

Well, the time has come for us to move. Tonight will be the last night in this house. I look out at the sea of bare walls and stacked boxes and it makes me feel sad... then I remember I don't give a crap. I hated this neighborhood, the house had issues and we are moving to something much better in many ways. I just hate moving. Even though I don't have to help much at all, it stresses Ethan out so it's no fun for anyone.

Today I had my appointment with my orthopedic guy. He said he thinks that my hip was previously riding in the socket wrong, that even though it was not causing visible damage, it was probably sitting right up against the cartilage. This makes perfect sense to me because it felt better to turn my foot in. Well, when my hip popped out of the socket, the doctor thinks it went back into the correct position. Now, the only pain that's there is from the loose ligaments. He said that the next option would have been exploratory surgery but, him and I both don't think the pain is bad enough now for that. I am now cleared for physical therapy.

He said the goal there is to find someone who knows about hypermobility or is at least willing to learn. It's very important that I am on a good working relationship with my PT and that they are very, very experienced. So, I would go to them for probably 6-12 weeks and they teach me what to do. Then my goal is to find a personal trainer (because they are less expensive) who also knows about hypermobility or is at least willing to learn and is again very, very experienced. I have to make sure the personal trainer is licensed and knows what they are doing.

He also said to expect "flare ups", that there will be times when I feel like I'm getting no where or when I have to go back to the ortho. He's also very curious to see what the geneticist will say.

And so I begin my road with hypermobility. I have to get in shape, but only with the help or real professionals. He explained that hypermobility can effect every medical issue that arises. Like, if I get in a car accident, I might get a lot of soft tissue damage but no stiff joints like most people would. And, that an inexperienced PT or personal trainer could really hurt me. Good to know.

Here's to good tomorrows.
