Character name: Crona and Ragnarok
Fandom: Soul Eater (anime)
Timeline: Post-series
Age: ... 15ish?
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:
Black Blood abilities: Blood hardens to provide protection against all by the strongest cutting attacks. Enhanced strength. Inhumanly fast healing if injured. Manipulation of blood outside of body (for example, the bloody needles attack, transforming blood splatters into flying needles, or the bloody slicer attack, in which Crona slits hir own wrist and uses that blood as a blade).
Soul Perception: Crona can see souls. Power levels, species, some basic personality traits, and if they're a Kishin Egg (have eaten the souls of innocent humans).
Ragnarok’s abilities: Transforms into broadsword, which uses sonic vibrations to act a like a buzzsaw, shredding in addition to slashing. Three different forms of his Screech attack (α, β, γ) which unleash a devastating sonic wave in conjunction with slashes of the sword. His soul resonance form results in Crona growing "wings" made of the black blood, and gaining the ability of flight.
Additionally, Ragnarok is able to communicate with Crona without speaking, though it does not appear that Crona can non-verbally communicate with Ragnarok.
How would they use their abilities?: If absolutely necessary, Crona is able to defend hirself and hir friends, but Crona is not the sort of person to use hir abilities for no reason. Ragnarok follows Crona's lead and would not attack without agreement from his meister.
Appearance: Crona is tall, thin, and very androgynous in appearance, with purple/pink hair and blue eyes. Zhe wears a long black dress and boots. Ragnarok is usually not visible at all, since he is Crona's blood, but he can take a rather cartoonish black-and-white humanoid shape on occasion, sprouting out of Crona's back. His weapon form is a long black sword with a mouth as the cross-guard.
Background:
The Soul Eater world is a rather bizarre one, and not just because of the really unnerving
sun and
moon. For starters, we have Shinigami, a rather quirky individual (who happens to be some kind of massively powerful god with strong ties to the concept of order/balance) who runs a school (Shibusen) for children with special abilities. What kind of special abilities? I'm so glad you asked. First of all, we have weapons, people who can literally transform their bodies into a specific object. These range from the traditional (scythes and guns and swords) to the absolutely bizarre (guillotines and mirrors). Secondly, we have meisters, people with the ability to use weapons in battle. They usually have some sort of supernatural abilities as well, though it is implied that you don't need to have unusual powers to be a meister. Meisters commonly have Soul Perception, an ability that does pretty much exactly what it sounds like, and lets them see the souls of other living creatures. Of course, I don't just say "the souls of humans", because really, what kind of world only has humans that would be silly.
The Soul Eater world has humans, but it also has vampires and werewolves and witches (not to mention all the animals also have souls). Oh, right, witches. So you see, witches are a race of female magic users who have incredibly long lives and are driven by something called "the sway of magic". The sway of magic is a delightful bit of pseudoscience based off the idea that the release of a large amount of energy (in this case, large amounts of magic) results in destruction, and means that witches (being natural magic users) are by nature driven to cause chaos and damage, giving the series a ready-made race of villains. Witches also created the entire weapon lineage about 800 years ago by fusing the soul of a witch, the soul of a human, and some kind of non-living weapon together. In this world, we also have Kishin, demon gods of insanity, who are formed when a human (or something else) eats bunches and bunches of non-evil human souls in order to gain supernatural powers. In the series, there is only one true Kishin, Asura, who Shinigami is keeping locked up under the school because apparently he cannot manage to kill Asura off. But there are also a bunch of Kishin wannabees, who go around killing and eating innocents.
So, we have Witches and Kishin and that is a problem because they are bad guys and humans cannot protect themselves from magical bad guys. This is where Shibusen comes in! Weapons and meisters train to fight witches and pre-Kishin, with two goals: keeping the world safe, and turning weapons into Death Scythes. A Death Scythe is pretty much just a super powered weapon, who has eaten 99 pre-Kishin souls and one witch soul.
The series is focused around three of these weapon+meister teams, Maka Albarn and Soul Eater, Black☆Star and Tsubaki Nakatsukasa, and Death the Kid and Liz and Patti Thompson. Maka and Soul are specifically focused on as the main characters, especially in the anime, and Maka in particular could be said to be the main character of the entire series. But that isn't really important, since I'm not actually apping Maka. So let us talk about Crona.
Crona was raised by hir mother, the witch Medusa Gorgon, who was an absolutely horrible person. First Medusa replaced all of Crona's blood with a magical substance called "black blood", which she made by somehow melting down a perverted bully with impulse control problems who could turn into a sword, then she physically and emotionally abused Crona for years with the intent of turning the child into a heartless killer, so that Crona could eventually become a demon god. Crona was starved, beaten, locked dark rooms for days on end, and forced to kill small animals, and eventually, humans. This treatment went on for years, until one day Crona and Ragnarok got in a fight with Maka Albarn and her weapon Soul Eater. Crona and Ragnarok defeat the pair fairly easily, but are then beaten by Dr. Franken Stein and his weapon (Maka's father) Spirit Albarn. Crona and Ragnarok leave, and then are next seen on the ghost ship Nidhogg, where they consume the souls that its captain had been collecting to sacrifice to the Kishin Asura. Crona and Ragnarok fight against Death the Kid, who had come to investigate the Nidhogg, and then leave.
When next we see Crona, zhe is providing backup for Medusa's attempt at reviving the Kishin Asura, who was imprisoned beneath Shibusen. Once again, Maka and Soul fight Crona and Ragnarok, but this time the ending to the fight is very different. Maka reaches out to Crona in a way no one ever had before, literally going into Crona's soul and extending an offer of friendship, which Crona accepts.
This new friendship with Maka (and Medusa's apparent death) results in Crona being accepted into Shibusen as a trial student. Crona begins to learn to interact with people more, going to school and carefully forming friendships. Then Medusa shows up again, tells Crona to turn traitor to Shibusen, and everything very quickly goes downhill. It is incredibly difficult for Crona to make a choice between hir new friends and hir mother, and Crona chooses to follow Medusa's orders. This choice absolutely wrecks Crona, who winds up running away from both Shibusen and Medusa. Maka tracks hir down and confronts Crona, who explained what zhe did and why. Crona hates Medusa, but feels loyal to Medusa, but doesn't want to hurt anyone ever again.
Because of Crona's betrayal, zhe is officially thrown out of Shibusen. However, zhe goes with Marie Mjolnir to track down Medusa, determined not to run away anymore, not to be the sort of person who is too weak to protect anyone. This leads to a final confrontation with Medusa, as Crona finally stands up against hir mother. Despite Crona's determination, Medusa is still able to seriously injure hir, as Crona's black blood abilities are nearly useless against the woman who created the black blood in the first place, and knows the best ways of hurting Crona. However, Crona's loss against Medusa does not trivialize the development that it took to get Crona to the point where standing up to and fighting against hir mother was a possibility. Once again, Maka comes to Crona's rescue, and kills Medusa.
Because of hir injuries, Crona is mostly left out of the rest of the series, only showing up again as a spectator.
Let's talk about relationships!
Ragnarok is pretty uncomplicated with relationships. He's selfish and only cares about people so far as they are necessary to his survival, can provide amusement, or are a possible threat.
Crona is a bit more complicated.
First we have Crona's relationship with Medusa. Crona is terrified of hir mother, and hates her more than anyone else in the world. At the same time, up until the climax of Crona's character development, Crona has a deep loyalty to Medusa, and can't possibly imagine betraying her.
Crona's relationship with Maka is also incredibly important, and massively shapes Crona's life. Maka is the one who saved hir from Medusa's influence, who showed Crona affection for the first time, who was the first person to ever look at Crona as an individual and not just the means to an end. This is what finally enables Crona to break free of Medusa's influence and fight back despite years of being conditioned to obey Medusa.
We also have Crona's relationship with the Death Scythe Marie Mjolnir. Marie is a friendly, caring, somewhat ditzy woman who very quickly takes Crona under her wing and tries to act as a mother figure. Crona winds up betraying Shibusen (under Medusa's orders and using magic Medusa created) by directly using Marie as a tool to spy on Shibusen and drive one of the top meisters insane. That betrayal is what absolutely wrecks Crona and forces hir to run away in an attempt to escape the situation. Crona cares a lot about Marie, though not to the same extent that zhe cares about Maka, and really wants Marie's attention, affection, and respect.
Personality
Crona
Crona’s gender is unknown, so this (and any sort of third-person section) will sound kind of awkward.
Nervous, jumpy, submissive, usually terrified, and soul-crushingly pessimistic (reading one of Crona’s poems made a zombie so depressed he regretted he had ever been brought back to life), Crona is described on TVTropes as “the woobiest woobie that ever woobed”.
Crona’s mindset and personality have been shaped by the actions of Crona’s mother, the witch Medusa. When Crona was very young, Medusa began conducting a variety of experiments on Crona, in an attempt to create a Kishin (because every loving mother tries to turn their child into a demon god of insanity). So, Medusa melted Ragnarok down into Black Blood, replaced Crona’s blood with this wonderful magic substance, and then abused, starved, and forced Crona to kill small animals in an attempt to utterly break the child.
Medusa's actions resulted in Crona becoming violent and unstable, a traumatized child who doesn't know how to deal with normal interaction and very quickly resorts to destroying anyone or anything that unnerves hir. Crona claims to hate everyone, and says that no one is able to understand hir. In the anime version of the Soul Eater universe, the loss of fear is a major sign of insanity, and while insane, Crona fears nothing, willingly starts fights, and rushes to attack enemies head-on.
In addition to the violent side of Crona's personality, Crona is also fairly curious, constantly asking questions of anyone and everyone. This aspect of hir personality does fade somewhat as the series progresses and Crona's more timid side comes to the front, but it is still part of how Crona's mind works.
After Crona and Maka become friends, Medusa apparently dies, and Crona begins attending classes at Shibusen, Crona's insanity fades and Crona's timid and pessimistic side comes to the forefront for a bit. Crona hides behind Maka, sits curled up in the corner of hir room hugging a pillow, can't stand going out in crowds or walking around the school, and is terrified of one of the teachers (who happens to be a zombie). When Maka suggests that Crona write poetry in order to express hir feelings, Crona's attempt is so soul-crushingly depressing that it makes everyone who reads it wish that they had never been born.
However, Crona does eventually become more comfortable around people, even without Maka around to provide support, and manages to settle in to a fairly normal school routine. As Crona gets more comfortable around other people, zhe becomes less and less of a pushover, and starts standing up for hirself more. This is seen in everything from Crona standing up to Ragnarok's bullying and telling him to behave to Crona's eventual decision to go and attack Medusa with the intent to kill her.
Ragnarok
Noisy, overbearing, bullying, slightly perverted, and self-centered, Ragnarok is pretty much everything Crona isn’t. He bullies Crona, stealing his meister’s food and liberally delivering noogies and light punches, carrying on running commentary about Crona’s fighting skills during battles, and letting Crona take light blows (not in combat) that were meant for Ragnarok. Additionally, he enjoys the taking and eating of souls, even without Medusa’s mind-altering spells. However, he is somewhat fond of his meister (because of their shared bodies and symbiotic nature), and protects, heals, and at times even encourages Crona.
He's something like an annoying, bullying older brother to Crona, and influences and forces Crona to follow Medusa's orders. Greed, boredom, and his temper and pride are usually his main motivations, and he doesn't really have any sort of conscience holding him back.
As the story progresses, Crona begins standing up to Ragnarok and refusing to cave in to his bullying, and usually that's enough to get the sword to back down and let Crona be.

1st person sample:
[Video, angled upwards at a pink-haired teenager in black clothes. The child looks fairly awkward and unsure of herself (himself?). The child is pressed up against the wall of a corridor, very visibly nervous, thin shoulders drawn up and dark eyes glancing rapidly around.]
Hello?
[A glance backwards, though there's no one standing behind the teen.]
... I don't think it's working. ... I did press the button.
[After that bit of odd one-person conversation the teen addresses the screen again.]
I'm Crona. ... [This kid is so unsure.]
Is... is anyone from Shibusen...
[This is difficult for Crona. This is really difficult. Crona fumbles a bit and cuts the feed.]
3rd person sample:
Crona had been sleeping in the infirmary at Shibusen, recovering and trying not to think of what would come next. Lady Medusa was dead, the Kishin was defeated, and maybe, just maybe, because Crona had helped Miss Marie and Professor Stein, maybe they would let Crona back into classes.
But that didn't really matter right now, because this was not Shibusen.
Crona had gone through the long lines, bewildered, filling out forms as they were handed over, turning in sheets with spaces empty and sent to the back of the line again. It was very noisy and very bright and there were so many people here (people, and maybe-people who didn't look like people) and Ragnarok had a headache and yelled and cursed into the back of Crona's skull and finally, finally Crona had filled out all the right spaces on the form and made it to the front of the line again.
The... thing sitting behind the desk handed the paper back (Crona didn't think it was possible to deal with filling out the form again, because everything had been done properly, hadn't it? Maybe Crona was very bad with filling out forms. Maybe Crona was only suited to writing in certain contexts, like homework or poetry) and pointed Crona at another line.
