So the Supreme Court just dickslapped the Harper government on safe injection sites. The government wanted to shut them down, but the court ruled that Canadians have a Charter right to access them, provided it can be demonstrated that these programs are cost-effective and clinically effective.
Instead of getting them shut down, this ruling has opened the door to open other clinics, and there are already plans to establish them in Toronto and Montreal.
Now that he has a majority, this may be the only defeat Harper will ever face, so savour it while it lasts.
