In yesterday's interminable Speech from the Throne,
the government announced that it will ask Parliament to “examine the original gender-neutral English wording of the national anthem.”
Apparently they got lots of emails during the Olympics from people objecting to the "In all thy sons command" line while watching woman after woman win gold for this country.
Any thoughts? Opinions? Is tradition (and the original lyrics) more important than being politically correct? Is this just a cheap ploy by the Conservative to try and boost their ratings with women, who tend to dislike Harper more than male voters do? If we're going to revamp the anthem to make it more politically correct, shouldn't we ditch the "god" references as well?
