Elect the Scud Stud!

Steady Eddie took the throne speech opportunity to call the March 3 election. Then it took at least 24hr.s to update the PC website with a list of candidates. Meanwhile the Liberals already had some lawn signs up. Then they went into Facebook and opened up candidate accounts.

Most feel that Stelmach is a rural guy who doesn't care much for urban issues, especially Calgary. The overwhelming wish is that we had Ralph back. At least he cared. At least he was in touch with the blue collars. Recall the story back when he was just a CTV reporter climbing City Hall rafters so he could report what was going on inside closed chambers. Ah, those memories.

Seems there is quite a growing support for Kevin Taft and the Alberta Liberals. The biggest obstacle the Liberals have isn't their stiff leader or crazy policies. It's their name. Albertans get a bad taste in their mouth just thinking they might vote for a party named Liberal.

Myself, I feel honoured and privileged to reside in Calgary-Currie where Arthur (the Scud Stud) Kent is running. He has no hands-on political experience but reporting the news has to count for something. Obviously he's got first hand experience in the middle east and the situation there which has a direct influence on the resource policies we enact here.

The issues obviously include oil. We simply don't have the capacity to pipe oil east to Ontario and points east. The energy pipes generally head south but recently the USA has said they might not want it.  Believe it or not. Instead of sending the oil to Eastern Canada, Stelmach wants to sell to Asia. Resources being the property of the province, we don't want Ottawa telling us what to do, but selling to Asia before the rest of Canada seems awful narrowly focused.

Healthcare is always an issue. The population growth has been a huge strain. Stelmach has promised more healthcare professionals (from overseas). The baby boomers are retiring to the coast or stateside with real estate windfalls. Taft just wants to eliminate premiums without any real plan for delivery.

provincial election, alberta
