Elitist Politics

Politics is very elitist and real citizens like you and me never end up holding office. Commoners have never filled the House of Commons. If you think about it, the best politicans are those who sacrifice or leave their professions to serve then return back to their old life. Career Politicans have hijacked our government. Being an MP isn't supposed to be like winning the lottery and serving for life.

We seriously need term limits. The whole purpose in serving is to do something and have conviction and not constantly worrying about re-election. The farmer, carpenter, bus driver, athlete, school teacher, short order cook,  small business owner, old cat lady who cares for strays and even actor would be far better than the lawyers and intelligenstia who've turned goverment into nothing but an employment program for themselves and each other! Our government of laws is really just a government of privilaged men who have nothing in common nor trully represent the average person who works, supports a family and wants to make things better for their children (or others) than they were for themselves. Isn't that really why we enumerated and sought to form govt in the first place?

Why even vote when the people who represent us are from the elite? I'd instantly vote for someone like Pinball Clemons for PM (athlete, community activist, model citizen) than some book smart lawyer or career bureaucrat or member of the intelligenstia.   The average homemaker or grandmother would do a better job in politics than those fools we have today.   I would trust my baber to be PM rather than: lawyers, speical interest lobbyists etc.

The Canadian public seems to have this deep belief that Politicians have to be potential Nobel Prize winners or London School of Economics Alumni to be quilified to serve.   My point is that those are exactly the worst people you want for the job.     Content of character is much more important than scholarly or professional credentials.   Courage, judgement and conviction are lacking in all those fools who represent us on all levels of govt.   Flaws are fine, i.e.  Ralph Klein (atoned alcoholic)  or a taste for the low brow, i.e.  Mike Harris (prefers WWE rather than Ballet).   Unlike Trudeau (with tailored mongramed shirts etc) who consolidated power and made the Prime Minster's office the apex of goverment.
