Remember Ralph Klein? You thought he was out of politics didn't you? Well almost. There's still a few loose ends to be tied up like the vacancy left in his riding.
So there's going to an election But that's not really what i wanted to talk about. I heard
George Read, Green Party leader and Calgary-Elbow candidate on the radio today and I was so impressed by everything he said. I didn't disagree with anything. If I was 10 blocks south of here I would certainly vote for him.
He says he's not left or right but forward. Most folks have the impression that the Greens are on the left. I feel they are on the right. But it might not be much of a stretch to believe George Read is really a forward thinking candidate.
For example he's for expanded choice in healthcare. It's quite backwards to believe the public system can/should/will take care of all. Either you are pro-choice or you're against alternatives in medicine.
I'm not 100% behind the
Alberta Green platform (PDF) but it's great that they're willing to incorporate members thoughts and ideas in a way the other top-down parties won't. Like the Green Tax is to me a way to allow the wealthy to pollute rather then an incentive not to. I'ld rather force compliance on polluters.
But George Read is listening. I hope the residents of Calgary-Elbow are listening to him.
