Heir to the throne, future King of Canada, embodiment of citizenship, will not go to war in Iraq unlike his uncles, grandfathers, great-grandfathers, and an entire history of royals, many of whom have died on the battlefield and theater of war. Why? Because it's too dangerous.
Granted the advisers do have a point. It probably is too dangerous. More threats have been made against the kid's life then any other soldier (unless commander-in-chief GWBush counts as a soldier). If (God forbid) Harry is killed in battle, then Great Britain will have to respond. Not in kind, but to a greater extent, thus preventing of GB exiting from Iraq in a set time frame. Seeing how the Prince of Wales is also the future monarch of Canada, this could draw our nation into the conflict. After all, not all the nations that Harry is monarch of is participating in this war in Iraq. Many, like Canada, have the resemblance of being neutral in this conflict.
While it is sad to see a Regal shy away from the battlefield, it doesn't seem like a just war for anyone to be in. It doesn't seem like an appropriate war for the Prince to partake in. And it doesn't seem like the Regal's participation would help the effort. In fact it might only serve to hinder any progress currently being made. Therefore I applaud the difficult decision that seems like cowardice on the surface.
