Following the outcome of yesterday's Quebec election and the strong showing of the Action démocratique party, a lot of people are going around celebrating the fact that the PQ finished 3rd and that 2 "federalist" parties now govern Quebec. For those of you who think the ADQ is a "federalist" party, consider that the party's platform includes:

I don't have any quotes on the tips of my fingers right now but they are right wing in the worst sence of the word, a number of their people steped down durring the campain because of unaceptable comments. Why? Because of the language barrier many Quebecers are massivly Xenophobic, stir in a nationalist penchant and a feeling of having been wronged and you get an ungly combination. Pluss you have to take into account that all the expiranced politicians are in one of the other parites. It's just not pretty.

Those people have sadly allways been a part of Quebec. The thing is the PQ are seen as too old and too set in its ways. Quebecers want an alternative to outright separation and they did before too but for some reason the ADQ came out looking credible this time around. THATS what I don't get. I blaim it on Harper's meddling, after all most of their new seats came from the Liberals. I think Harper may have predicted this, after all he has no love for the Liberals and the ADQ are right wing, and its no surprise that putting his support behind the Liberals would scare Quebecers AWAY from them and into the arms of another party.

You know, I was thoroughly annoyed Harper meddled in the election. First, I had a suspicion that he was up to something...If Quebecers see their Premier getting cosy with the PM, it will cause a problem for the Premier and his or her party. And that's what happened. (From what I've seen, usually relations between federal and provincial leaders in Quebec try to be open but not chummy)

Second, didn't Harper used to whine and moan about the issue of federal politicians meddling in provincial politics?
