Mandatory passport stamps for immigrants

Dec 28, 2006 21:33

Ottawa is being accused of "harassing" immigrants who are now required to have their passports stamped on returning from abroad... "This is outrageous," Immigration lawyer Mendel Green said yesterday. "This will mean people will ... be harassed on their return home."

WHAT?! What kind of harassment are they talking about?

"If the time abroad exceeds guidelines then the person can have permanent residency revoked or be denied citizenship" Yes. That's the law. And you have to have valid passport and present you PR Card regardless.

What is your problem Mr. Green? How the stamp in the passport would be harassing? Or you really mean: "all my clients were lying to you [Canada] about days they spend on your soil, all they need is to get the Canadian Passport and fly back home, away from Canada (in case there would be one more free evacuation of Canadians from somewhere they do live, like Lebanon this passport would be really handy) And now you trying to catch them?!"

I'm Permanent Resident myself. Yes there would be 2 seconds delay on my next border crossing to stamp my passport. I'm OK with that.
