We've talked a lot about this recent incident but haven't said much about the political side of things, not that I think thats a bad thing. I think Harper is right in saying that now isnt a time to talk policies, still I think its worth bringing this up

now TO buy a handgun all you do is preent your ID

Scrap the current gun registry as it is and let's start over from scratch. For a sizable donation, any competent university computer engineering dept would probably be more then willing to set up a effective gun registry quite quickly. Make for a nice school project and contribution to the nation.

I don't know that any registry can save lives. We register or motor vehicles and people still die. Diamonds are registered. Nearly all financial transactions are registered. All a registry does and can do is keep track of bills of sale, taxes and ownership. Perhaps it can place responsibility. In my mind those are all good things. But to suggest that it'll save lives is a bit silly. I just don't see how.

I'll have it up and running in 12 months, for 2,000,000 plus hardware (which they should have already) and 100,000 a year maintainance fee, fixed price, thats it, no more.

I just delivered a 3.5 million project to a company in China that will be used by up to 300 concurent users all over the world over the world over secure vpn. It's not rocket science. It's basically a data entry and retrieval system, with a shitload of security.

You need a fixed price private firm with experience in delivering software projects, or you end up with the same problem.

Also, how will university maintain this when you have turn around every year or so....

It's a nice idea... but in the end I think it would suffer.
