HBP, Chapter Twenty-Five -- The Seer Overheard

Jul 15, 2007 17:11

Harry felt the happiest that he's ever felt in the next few weeks and didn't even care that people were interested in and were gossiping about him and Ginny. He felt that it was a nice change to be talked about because of something that was making him happy rather than being talked about for being involved in Dark Magic.

Harry enjoys several happy days in the company of Ginny and even though Ron gives them his approval, he isn't too keen to see them snog again especially when they make fun of him and his pretend tattoo.

As they move into June, Harry and Ginny's time together becomes increasingly restricted on account of Ginny's upcoming O.W.L.s. Hermione also takes it upon herself to chide Harry for distracting Ginny from her studies. On one occassion when Harry was in the common room, thinking about lunch-time when he had spent a happy hour with Ginny, Hemione comes up to Harry with some information she had found out about "The Half-Blood Prince." It turns out that there was a former girl student at Hogwarts by the name of Eileen Prince. Hermione gets angry with Harry when he scoffs at her idea and says that the person behind the potions book was most likely male and decides to continue her research of Eileen Prince on her own.

Harry then recieves summons from Dumbledore and as he makes his way to Dumbledore's office via the seventh floor, he suddenly hears a loud scream and crash. He finds Prof. Trelawney sprawled on the floor with several sherry bottles around her. He helps her to her feet and quickly realises that they're standing near the Room of Requirement. Prof Trelawney tells him that she was indeed trying to get into the Room of Requirement to deposit her sherry bottles but when she got in, someone was already there - whooping gleefully and when she made her presence known, suddenly the room turned dark and she was hurled headfirst out of it. Harry concludes that this could only have been Malfoy.

Harry suggests that she tell Dumbledore of this event and Trelawney hesitates at first and then decides to go along with Harry. As they walk towards Dumbledore's office, Trelawney tells him about her first interview with Dumbledore that took place at the Hog's Head. She, of course doesn't know about the prediction she made that night but Harry being aware of it listens to her closely as she tells him about being rudely interrupted by Severus Snape. Harry is extremely shocked as he realises the implications of her statement - Snape was the one who overheard the prophecy and conveyed it to Voldemort. Angry, Harry leaves Trelawney behind as he runs towards Dumbledore's office.

Inside Dumbledore's office, he finds out that Dumbledore is ready for a Horcrux hunt and invites Harry to join him. Dumbledore tells him that he believes the Horcrux is hidden in the cave in which Tom Riddle had terorized the children from his orphanage. Dumbledore realizes that something had upset Harry, and when Harry tells him what he found out from Trelawney, he tries to explain to Harry that Snape had made a terrible mistake at that time and since then regretted his actions and decided to return to the good side. Harry is unwilling to accept this explanation and continues to reamin angry at Snape and at Dumbledore for trusting Snape.

Harry tells Dumbledore about Malfoy and his fear that Malfoy and Snape could be upto something while Dumbledore is away, but Dumbledore brushes off his concern and tells him that he has arranged for his students protection and didn't want to discuss the matter with Harry any further. He asks Harry again if Harry wished to go on the Horcrux hunt, when Harry accedes, he makes him agree to his condition: that Harry obey any command Dumbledore might give him, without any question. Harry agrees and Dumbledore tells him to meet him at the entrance hall with his invisibility cloak.

Harry finds Ron and Hermione in the Gryffindor Common room, he gets the bottle of Felix Felicis from his trunk and tells them where he was going and he also tells thema bout what he found out about Malfoy. He gives them his Marauder's Map to keep track of Snape and Malfoy and the bottle of Felix Felicis and tells them to share it between themselves and Ginny.

Harry rushes back to meet Dumbledore, who asks him to wear his inviibilty cloak and they make their way to Hogsmeade. They walk past the Three Broomsticks where Madam Rosmerta sees Dumbledore go past and they turn into the street where the Hog's Head is. Dumbledore tells Harry to hold on to his arm and the next instant Harry finds himself in a cool place inhaling salty air.
