Sarah sat on the edge of her bed with her cellphone in hand, biting her cheek and staring at the name blinking on screen. She wasn't sure exactly what she should say to Enzan, but after talking to Blues it wasn't like she could just let this matter slide. He was gonna get in trouble over these stunts sooner or later if he kept it up

The sound was the sound of Enzan answering, and promptly dropping the phone.

And some swearing.

"Eh, sorry, sorry," he muttered as he picked up the phone. "Hi, Sarah."

...dude, what in hell. "Did you just drop your phone?"

"Ah, yeah," he replied, sheepishly. There was a rustling in the background that sounded like books and paper. "I tried to grab it with the wrong hand. What's going on?"

Sarah laughs and a sound of something falling onto mass of fabric can be heard. "Thought I'd give you a call. Heard you've been sneaking out to see Hannah?"

"You - what. Who told you that?!"

Note, by the sudden squeaking of his voice, that it is most likely true and all.

"A guy. You know you're gonna get caught if you keep it up, right? You're dad's gonna catch on sooner or later, and where are you gonna be then?"

"It was Blues, wasn't it." This was not a question, but Enzan sounded only annoyed (and not completely pissed, as he should be). He sighed, and sat down on the bed.

"I know. I'm being stupid."

[canon_is_god]

This would be Sarah neither denying nor confirming that. "If you know you're being stupid, then why are you doing it?"

[not_a_shadow]

"...It doesn't seem stupid at the time?" That was weak, and said rather weakly.

"I - I don't know. I just... want to see her."

[canon_is_god]

"I know that feeling, Enzan, trust me." Her smile can likely be heard in her voice, warm as it is. "And I know it's frustrating to have to stay away like that. But you can still talk to her in the time between, and you can talk to your father about going to hang out with her more often when you're not grounded anymore. It might seem impossible to get him to co-operate, but it's much better than him finding out you've been sneaking around for months behind his back."

"If he didn't treat her like she was personally responsible for my hospital trip, I wouldn't go out of my way to try to piss him off," Enzan replied darkly. Then he sighed again.

"But that's not very responsible, is it?"

"Not really." Sarah pauses, and there's more sounds of fabric shifting. "Maybe you should point that out to him. Adults can be as near-sighted as kids, but they don't realize it as much. It could catch him off-guard if you bring up his own childishness."

"I wish," Enzan grumbled, but, then again, Sarah had a point. His father had a temper, but he could usually see reason when it was presented to him.

Enzan was just bad at presenting it to him.

"I just wish he'd stop treating me like I'm going to break."

[canon_is_god]

"Just give it a shot. Think out what you're gonna say beforehand, and make the confrontation on your own terms. Make it so you're in control." She chuckles a little. "I'm bad at getting my point across too, but if you don't try you'll never know if you can do it, right?"

And a snort. "Enzan? You just lost your entire arm and were in the hospital for I don't even know how long. He's your dad, of course he's going to be protective of you right now, it's how they are."

"I know it is." More rustling. "And it seems like no matter how good I am, I can't stay out of trouble. Is it just me? Maybe I'm cursed."

[canon_is_god]

"Hey now. Don't start thinking it's your fault, alright? Maybe some of your decisions contribute to you finding trouble so easily, but you don't have any real control over that. If your dad's bitching about that, it'd do good to remind him that you don't have control of everything that happens to you."
