$78,000 Per Second!?

May 04, 2006 13:51

Last year, the United States government spent over $78,000 per second!

If we do the math, $78,000 x 60 seconds x 60 minutes x 24 hours x 365 days = $2,459,808,000,000!

Wow... that's way too much money!

According to the CIA website, the population of the United States is at least 295,734,134.

(Estimated to be 298,444,215 by July 2006.)

Let's suppose we decided to share that money with the American population instead.

$2,459,808,000,000 / 295,734,134 = $8,317.63 per person.

Oh, wait... I just realized something.

According to a demographics website, 75% of the overall population are 18 years of age or older.

75% of 295,734,134 is 221,800,601.

Let's start over using only adults instead of the overall population...

$2,459,808,000,000 / 221,800,601 = $11,090.18 per person.

Wow, that's a few thousand dollars more! Whew!

Okay, let's suppose everyone didn't work...

Each person would have $924.18 a month to spend.

According to the various apartment prices throughout the United States, the average price is $657 per month.

Let's suppose one person decided to live alone. Each person would have $267.18 left over.

$267.18 is enough to cover food and utilities.

What if more people lived together? Well, if that was the case... they would be spending less on rent leaving them with more money.

What about those who have kids? Well, if they have kids... they are most likely to be married or living with their partner. Again, they would be spending less on rent leaving them with more money to spend for the kids.

Wow, the money that the United States wasted could removed every homeless person from the streets and given a decent place to live without even having to work!
