Since planting a Garden with Kate I've renewed my interest in entomology and insect systematics. At first, it was solely pragmatic; I had to control the pests eating our little nursery. Now, it's blossomed into a outright distraction. I want to get out into the field and collect! I want to commit insecticide with a purpose and scale suitable for a museum! Mayflies murdered, ants eighty-sixed, damselflies dead! Kate would kill me.
So, the impracticality of field collection while I'm trying to pull a dissertation proposal together will keep my killing jars cold for the time being. For now, I'll have to stick to photographing the odd mantid preying on whatever happens to err across my tomatillo plant.
