shit country
So, I guess it's the end of an era, somebody kicked in the crankset on the side of my longtime black Norco bicycle that I bought at a yard sale on Belmont ave. a few years ago. I managed to bike home but the gears are bent out of shape in a way that tortures the chian.
I could have it repaired, but the bike itself is pretty much a clunker at this point, I'll probably just donate it to some bike parts place.
I think they kicked it in because of the sticker I put on the side that says "Shit Country", in fact I always knew its days were numbered when I put on that sticker, but I never thought the final beating would happen in Rockcliffe Park of all places, a neighborhood only inhabited by genteel millionaires and diplomats. I suppose it must have been a patriotic teen in private school uniform on their way to one of those schools that cost $25,000 per semester, you know the one that all your friends in screamo bands are ashasmed to admit they went to..
By the way, speaking of what a dumb country this is, I.&I were taking the bus in Kanata and we kept going across this "Valour Bridge" which is a highway overbridge glorified with tasteful light standards and plaques comemmorating all of Canada's patriotic wars abroad. I kept squinting, trying to look as the bus passed over the bridge, and sure enough there was even a plaque memorializing the Boer War (or "South African war" as they termed it).
Gotta love the fact that a liberal suburb of hi-tech/governement workers in 2005 puts up a plaque to a colonial-era campaign in Africa which saw the first large-scale use of concentration camp extermination techniques in modern times, as well as the burning of the villages and farms of an entire nation. (although of course the Afrikaners/Boers being exterminated were no angels themselves..check out this subtitled news segment of the popularity of a south african pop song glorifying the Boer guerillas I found yesterday.)
Reminds me of this punk song I used to listen to as a teen..

These Dutchmen carried rifles-went out hunting on horseback delighting in the slaughter-of a bigger kind of prey, taking part in the latest wave of genocide they found killing Zulus much more- fun than any other game. -ch- Victims they may have been-But innocent they were not, they were murderers just the same-with their own code of hate. These Zulu warriors felt so proud- of all the suffering they had caused, driven to a frenzy by the death hate- of tribal wars, bound up by their own morals- their own bigotry + lies + shit, it's just the same in- Northern Ireland, Poland + Afghanistan, they're just fighting for the right- to enforce their own oppression through the bigotry + blindness- of their moral law.
