Night of Devious Clothing

Tonight I broke in two notable items of clothing.

Punishment Hat is a blue, spherical hat somewhere between a giant beret and a thick toque. It has little tiny sparkles in it and a humorous set of hanging pompoms.

Punishment hat once punished those who were too cowardly to kiss their date. Certain characters would have to wear it in humiliation until they managed to kiss the proper person.

Not knowing that it was the same hat--even though I remembered earlier this winter and shied away from its stigma--I had been wearing it around the house for a few days, feeling its plushy softness, being wooed by its dangly bits. I thought it was perfect for the costume party tonight, that I'd just have to wear some billowy pants, a sash, maybe a tight striped shirt..

Once I found out that it was punishment-hat, I was shocked, but I was in denial. I said "hat of joy" (as I once tried unsuccessfully to rebrand the sweater of misery) and thought that saying so would make it real.

It didn't. Punishment Hat.

Billowy pants were the second new addition, sadly I know them now to be Pants of the Muffling of Joy. I thought that they would be conducive to dancing to the song in my heart, but once I got on the dancefloor, someone said "What--you don't like to dance?"--and to my horror, I looked down and saw that they were far too giant for anyone to see the rhythmic movement of my little legs. Pants of concealment, they seemed just to be blowing slightly in the wind, nothing more.

Thankfully, all was not lost, as trusty-ol' Found-scarf* pulled his weight, in this manifestation as a beautiful and whimsical sash around my waist.

*Found-scarf was a scarf I found on the sidewalk of Slater St. after dark one time. It basically looks like a Kaffia except it's burgundy-and-black-coloured. I've used it for everything--pillowcase, pillow, bandanna, headscarf, scarf, towel, dish-drying cloth, blanket, picnic surface, delicate-item and fresh-bread wrapping of all sorts, and now a sash.
