Weirdo Quota

May 31, 2010 17:49

I've been trying to do a regular 1-2 hour cane spinning and contact juggling practice session in Washington Park. It seems to really help my technique, especially since some things don't start coming out until I've been going at it for at least 1/2 an hour or so. Anyways, it attracts the strange, the interesting, and the curious. A.K.A. The weirdos. So I've started to make a game of it where I can't leave until I've been approached by at least two "weirdos". Normal people count as 1/2 a weirdo. Fringe culture types, martial artists, and weird people count as 1 weirdo. If a group approaches you, that counts as one "person". Rate the weirdness based on the main person in the group who approaches you.

Today, while spinning at the park, I had 2-1/2 weirdos.
  • 1 weirdo: A stout older gentleman came up and asked me how old I was. When I said I was in my 30's, he walked away.
  • 1/2 weirdo: A grandmother with 2 grandchildren in tow came up. We chatted briefly. Then she went off in search of her daughter.
  • 1 weirdo: A skater dude who had enjoyed far too much malt beverage wanted to try out the cane spinning. He had some solid beginner technique. However, his malt beverage was too close to my bag, and, predictably, got spilled on it. I wish he'd done it. Then I could have put out some serious wrath. But alas, I'd only been half paying attention and ended up spilling it myself.
All-in-all, a good day, and I exceeded my weirdo quota by 1/2.
