[There the sound of barking, the kind of barking done by a very large dog, and the sound of people having a good time; shopping, walking.]

Oh, what a cute puppy!

[There's more barking]

Rain smiled at the dog and crouched down to offer her hand for sniffing. She'd always loved dogs and they most always liked her back. One day maybe she'd be able to have one of her own. If, you know, she ever stayed in one place long enough.

She reached out to scritch him behind the ears if he'd allow her. "Good boy. Aren't you the handsome one?"

She laughed delightedly and set to work petting and rubbing. "You have a home, boy? You must. You look too well taken care of. Too bad, 'cause I'm staying on a really nice farm - lots of room to run around."

Well, he does have a home, but that's okay. He wags his tail again and rolls onto his belly. BELLY SCRATCHES PLEASE]

Rain sat herself right down on the ground and happily obliged. "I've missed this," she told him, not feeling at all odd about talking to a dog. "There were lots of dogs on the rez and I loved having them around."

Woof. What's a reservation, he wonders, but man, pretty girl and a belly rub. Can't beat that.

Rain was happy to put aside whatever plans she might have had - not that there was much beyond wandering about - and stay right here as long as the dog cared to keep her company.

"It's a place where the native americans live," she answered, her odd abilities giving her a sense of the 'dog's' surface thoughts without even being aware she was doing it. "Government took away all their land and shoved them there. My grandmother's on one. She's Lakota. me too. half anyway."

[OOC: Rain is able to hear some unvoiced surface thoughts - like a question or comment someone might think clearly, but not actually say. She's often not even aware she does it or that the words were unsaid. If you'd rather she not catch that thought I'm glad to retag!]

He gives her a quizzical expression, and he gives her a paw to shake.

[ooc: That's cool, and totally fine!]

She laughed and shook his paw. "Boy, I wish I could bring you home with me. You'd be great company. Bet you'd be good at keeping the bad people away. I could even stay outside here if I wanted at night if you were around."

He wags his tail again - he would be pretty great at that, if he does say so himself.

"So, is your owner around here somewhere or did you run off? Or get lost? Do you have a collar?" She didn't think she'd seen one, but it was possible she missed it.

No owner, or collar. But he does have a home....he turns and offers her another paw.

She laughed and shook his paw, then threw her arms around her neck and hugged him. "I haven't been this happy in a while. I'm so glad you were here today!"

Oh man. A hug. Score.

He licks her cheeks and gives her a doggy grin.
