THINGS, STUFF

Kaleidoscope Fanwork Exchange, a "multimedia fanwork exchange for rare chromatic source fandoms," is open for sign-ups until October 8. A list of nominated fandoms is here.

I'd been vaguely expecting to participate, but my brain is so scattershot and I'm failing so hard at WIP right now that I runno. This is especially sad in light of the nominated fandoms, including but not limited to 12K, HachiKuro, Natsume Yuujinchou, Aoi Hana, MadoMagi, and No. 6--aaahaha merely typing out this list has refreshed my crushing sense of obligation to participate. It's like a friend is throwing a party where they're serving all your favorite noms and boozes while playing all your favorite choonz, and you're like "I have a headache, I'm staying home to swoon on my fainting couch." Anyway, signal boost.

No.6 recs:

"Communication Breakdown" by zoesque. Post-series futurefic.

"On This Happy Occasion of Master Taking a Bride by fencer_x. The one where Nezumi's mice are small children.

「学パロ日常」 (or, as I call it in my head, Nezumi & Shion's Day of Smoochies) by 宮都 is gross unfiltered adorbs and you prolly don't need to be J-enabled to be slain by it.

This post-series manga by うにぞう is A++, but you do need to be J-enabled.

Alas No. 6 has ruined me for other fandoms with its torrential downpour of OTP fanart. Like, no matter how many times I compulsively refresh the ShouRin tag on pixiv, there are still only 126 results, as opposed to idek how many thousand depictions of Flowerboy and Mouseboy In Love. No. 6 doesn't even need a pairing tag because the series tag is the pairing tag. The series is the pairing. Which is like, a magical dream come true. If only more fiction had priorities like this! lawl NARRATIVES ARE JUST THINGS TO HANG OTPs ON, DIDN'T YOU KNOW /wheeze wheeze

Penguindrum: I can't even. Ep 12 left me all alskjfl;askjdflskdfjksdlfjk but I have nothing of substance to say. Please say things of substance, internets!

In addition to the incest--which was ridiculously moving, my &hart went out in that one scene, Ikuhara how did you do that, you made me feel legit sorry that their love can never be, lawl--there was even moar Takakura bondage:

XD; but I guess bondage is thematically appropriate, huh. As opposed to some other kink. Since the series is about being bound by Fate (and/or expectations?), not to say tied up and struggling against it.

RE: the bros may not be bros, it's not 100% unambiguous from Takakura-papa's phone convo that they're talking about a singular baby--so that could be a red herring (like Takakura-papa's doppelganger)? Also, isn't it possible that Takakura-mama might have popped Kanba out first, Takakura-papa got the phone call, and then Shouma came along belated? SURPRISE TWIN? How do twin births usually go? They didn't know the sex of the baby in advance, so was there even an ultrasound? idek. There's still plenty of evidence for the "not really brothers" theory and I'm totally willing to buy it--despite my lolterror that Shouma might instead be related to SOMEONE ELSE--I just don't know what to think.

Notes on rewatch:

People blame Kanba for being incestbro, but really Himari's the instigator, right? Himari and/or Princess Hat. I mean, I thought her initial grab of Kanba's glowing soulball/lifeforce/heart/whatever was the trigger that shot what otherwise might've been a fairly standard sistercon-brothercon sort of attachment into...a more critical case.

There was that blog post about #2 and Shouma being "out of synch," but there are moments where Kanba and #1 seem to be "out of synch" to an extent, like in ep. 10 in the hospital where Kanba and Ringo are talking in the wake of Shouma being kidnapped. Presumably at that moment Kanba is dealing with the situation at hand--yet there's #1 fishing for panties. Are we really meant to take it that Kanba's id/subconscious/whatever is that fixated on sex? To the exclusion of all else? He's a red-blooded 16-year-old boy, I guess XD; and he's not getting it where he really wants it. Plus #1 fishing for (random other women's) panties could be an indication of Kanba's active non-interest in Ringo--in contrast w/ Ep 2 where #1 is initially interested/indiscriminate enough to look up her skirt.

I do like that Shouma--per #2--has apparently subsumed all his carnal urges into gustatory ones. So he's also obsessed with sex, there's just an extra layer of obfuscation. It's okay, Shouma, oral fixations are charming! And apples are FOR EATING amirite.

Neither here nor there, but rewatching made me crave Golden Curry like you wouldn't believe.
