Syracuse University and the Taishoff Center for Inclusive Higher Education proudly announce:

THE OPENING OF REGISTRATION FOR
DISABLED AND PROUD: A CALL TO LEAD (http://disabledandproud.syr.edu/)
A conference for undergraduates with disabilities, including those attending part-time or in campus-based transition programs for students with intellectual disabilities.

COST: FREE - there are no registration costs; food will be provided. Students' only cost is travel and lodging. Scholarships are available for students and any professionals (e.g., personal care attendants) who may need to travel with them. Disability services offices and organizations are encouraged to sponsor students' travel expenses instead of sponsoring the conference itself (see details at http://disabledandproud.syr.edu/) .

WHERE: Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York

WHEN: August 5-7, 2011

WHO: Undergraduate-level college students with ANY type of disability are welcome, including dyslexia and learning disabilities, ADHD, psychiatric disabilities (including depression), autism or Asperger's, chronic health conditions, physical or sensory disabilities, culturally Deaf students, etc. Students from outside of the United States are also welcome.

WHY: The goal of the conference is to build community among the current generation of college student leaders with disabilities, and to support them in their work to create change on their home campuses.

Other highlights include:
** Judy Heumann and Ari Ne'eman as keynote speakers
** A performance by the band FLAME, recently featured in People magazine
** Accessible resources to use and share with others on their campus
** Opportunities to learn from peers who have created change on their campuses
** Networking with other students to build community across the United States
** Working with other student participants to set a national and federal agenda for disability and higher education

The motto of the Taishoff Center (http://taishoffcenter.syr.edu) is "higher expectations for higher education" - we hope this conference helps raise the bar for colleges and universities, with students leading them forward.

For more information or to register, please go to the website at http://disabledandproud.syr.edu/ or contact the Taishoff Center at taishoffcenter@syr.edu or 315-443-1288.

We encourage organizations and colleges to sponsor students attending the conference, rather than sponsoring the conference itself. If you would rather contribute a tax-deductible donation to the Disabled and Proud conference, the conference scholarship fund, or the Taishoff Center, please go to https://secure.syr.edu/giving/soe_giving.aspx?fund=4

Feel free to pass it on, link to this post, etc.
