Will Computers Take Over?
I encountered an article about AI. It talks about the dangerous possibilities that could arise from current and future developments in AI, and though it claims developments like HAL, The Matrix, or Terminator cyborgs aren't in our near future, it is conceivable that machines could soon take more jobs currently performed by humans, and we are already on the threshold of machines that could kill autonomously. What frightened me most, however, was the suggestion that an intelligence might spontaneously spring from the Internet. Anonymous, you might truly become a form unto your own, and that scares me. I don't want to see what the Internet as an intelligent, autonomous entity would look like. It would be a VERY SCARY individual. Oh wait, I'm on the Internet now...I better watch what I say.
