Yesterday we headed off to the Goffertpark in Nijmegen to listen to MUSE in concert.
We were in Nijmegen very early, and had time to grab a quick bite at the station, before heading to the park.
When we were done eating we went to catch one of the buses that were going back and forth, transporting people to the concert venue. There was already quite a queue, but it moved pretty quickly, they did a good job in keeping the buses coming and going. However, by the time we took our bus and drove past the queue, it had grown like 10 times in size!! We were really just in time I think :D
To add to the atmosphere, Holland won against Japan, which increased the number of happy people on the streets, and the amount of orange worn at the concert heheh. It was buzzing with excited people at the station, both from the concert and the match.
Once at the festival terrain, it looked like a miniature Lowlands heheh, I didn't really expect that. I wasn't all too thrilled about that to be honest LOL, especially since I had a bit of a headache that I got while on the train, and wasn't looking forward to pushing my way through 55,000 people's asses. That and knowing that I wouldn't be able to see a damn thing of what was going on on the stage kinda ticked me off. I told Jeroen I was done with going to concerts in Holland (unless I can get an assigned seat and I can actually see what I paid for instead of some tall dude's bald head)
The concert was opened by two guest band, Ghinzu and the Editors. I think people were not too enthusiastic about Ghinzu, but they livened up a lot more with the Editors. As predicted I could only get some glimpses of the stage, so by the time Muse started Jeroen and I moved backwards a little bit and secured a decent spot close to a big screen that was hanging somewhere. Jeroen had offered to lift me up so I could see, but after hearing a guy yelling at another girl who was doing the same to "get her fat ass down",and see a few empty plastic cups thrown her way, I wasn't too keen on doing that, thank you very much.
But thanks to that big screen I could follow more of what was going on on stage. In the end I could enjoy the music, everyone was singing along, the light show was awesome, and by then the paracetamol had kicked in. Even the sun came out for a short bit, which lit up the stage and made everything look really pretty.
Oh, and we didn't get wet, as I had initially expected, which was AWESOME.
Unfortunately we had to cut the concert short at the risk of missing our last train home. We missed the last two songs, as did a lot of people who also had to rush to catch their trains. They should really plan these things earlier!!
We made it to Deventer somewhere past midnight. There was a night-train going to Apeldoorn but that meant waiting 2 hours in the station, so we took a cab instead. I think it was closish to 1.00 by the time we got home. Quite a day!
So yeah, despite the headache and my initial disappointment when I realized I wouldn't be able to see shit of Muse on the stage, in the end I did have fun.
Today plans are just being lazy, and I will call my dad on Skype later on to congratulate him on Father's Day. :)
Hope everyone else is having a good weekend too!

P.S. They also had a system to keep the place a bit cleaner: for every ten empty plastic cups you brought back, you'd get one token, which was good for one beer or drink. The system works wonders, you can see people actively picking up the trash in exchange for tokens.
So, to all those antisocial littering dickheads finishing their drink, dropping the plastic cup to the ground and STOMPING it on purpose so that it became useless to those collecting them, fuck you with a rusty spike and DIAF.
concert,
