"Then i will tell them plainly. 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!" -Matthew 7:23

In the beginning there was God. In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth. When God created Heaven he made many angels. The angels were supposed to all serve one purpose. His, they were to serve their creator’s will above all else. God had a favorite of the angels, Lucifer, the Morning Star. He loved Morningstar more than the rest, and that was very clear to all of them. Though once the humans were created, the Father’s focus went onto them and he ordered the angels to love the humans more than God, more than the father. However Morningstar could not do this. He refused to. Morningstar built an army and planned to overthrow father, make him see they should not have to serve lowly humans that could be so easily swayed and tempted.

Lucifer got his youngest brother, Gabriel to join him, even though Gabriel was strongly against it at first, but Lucifer promised they would not hurt the father, but that this needed to be done so the humans would have to worship and serve them, instead of the angels serving the flawed humans. Gabriel was torn. He did not know which side to be on.

He loved Lucifer and yet he loved father. He eventually joined Lucifer’s army and he was one of the angels cast out to disobedience. Gabriel remembered clinging to Lucifer and crying in anguish at the loss of their home.

He knew Lucifer was trying to comfort him, yet he could not help. He would never be able to help. Gabriel wouldn’t be able to be in the light of his father ever again, and thus the bitter hatred formed. He did not blame his father, he partially blamed Lucifer, yet he also blamed himself.

4010 years later, all that hatred and anger will have warped the angel’s grace beyond recognition but to the angel Lucifer’s recognition, Lucifer having also been twisted, due to his own rage, resentment, hurt and bitterness. Gabriel however was one of the lucky few that escaped Hell before Lucifer did, four years before. He ran across those that from the beginning were meant to be the vessel of his brothers. He wanted to kill them.

He had his own vessel, had conned the vessel into saying yes, the vessel believing he was something a religion said he was not. His separation from the father and his time in isolation in his own cage had destroyed him, destroyed the angel he had once been.

He harassed the Winchesters as a entity he felt he could relate with. A Trickster. Well…in a way.

He dealt out his own cruel justice and it gave him something to do, until Sam Winchester broke open Lucifer’s cage completely by accident, yet by destiny’s design it wasn’t. He welcomed his brother, trapping the brothers in the church, he laughed loudly as the Winchesters started at him in shock, as four dark ash black wings with gold on it’s edges came from his back and he spoke in a language the brothers knew not but which he and Lucifer did.

“Welcome brother! I have been waiting!” He yelled to the air as Sam and Dean Winchester looked about ready to shit themselves.

They’d never seen Gabriel like this as Gabriel looked to them with dark eyes. He snapped his fingers and sent Dean away, keeping Sam trapped that is, until there was a rush of pure power and Sam was gone. Gabriel’s eyes were dark as he heard his brother, asking if that was who they thought it was that helped the younger Winchester. They figured it was.
--
It was a few months after, shortly before they would release Death, that the boys captured Gabriel, and held him hostage in holy oil, the once archangel snarling angrily at them. He’d been lured into coming to Bobby’s home and into his panic room, all with a fucking offering. Damn angel instincts telling him to accept the damn offering. It’s what had gotten him captured…

“Why did you ditch?” Sam asked, Dean scoffed.

“It’s clear he didn’t ditch, he was kicked out for siding with Lucifer. Everything about this bag of dicks mentioned in the bible is wrong. All wrong. Look at him! It’s clear he never loved anyone in his whole life!” Dean snarled eyes angry as Gabriel’s twisted, scarred and dark grace surged to the surface angrily as he started to lift a hand to snap his fingers to explode the Winchester but Castiel appeared and glared at Gabriel, who glared back.

The fledgling had grown and yet had fallen as well. The archangels were the only angels that kept their grace when they fell. Castiel’s was nothing but a handful of Gabriel’s own.

“Why? Why did you go with him?” Castiel asked, sadness to the fledgling’s voice as Gabriel let out a huff and he felt some defiance leave him as he looked away.

“I wish I could say…Loyalty to him I guess. Lucifer always did have a way with words…” He mumbled. He was held captive for days as they interrogated him, the human Bobby Singer also trying to get him to spill his guts but when any of them would get closer, Gabriel would lash out, especially if they were stupid enough to come over the fire, which Dean was. Dean was stupid enough that he came into the circle and Gabriel nearly ripped his throat out before he realized what he was doing.

“You’d do anything for Sam and Sam anything for you. I will do anything for Lucifer,” Gabriel snarled into Dean’s ears, “That includes not ratting out his plan to two filthy mud monkies,” He then threw the human across the room and into the wall where he slipped down.

Gabriel could see the souls of the humans and the souls were whole, and Dean’s itself was scarred but whole. Sam’s was filled with the taint of the demon blood, something he appraised Lucifer of, for thinking of it for the Winchester.

Speaking of his brother…where was he? Why hadn’t he come for him? He hadn’t spoken to his brother in days; his brother should have been looking for him. He didn’t want to be stuck here forever…

Almost as if on cue, Lucifer came blasting into the home of Robert Singer. He was instantly assaulted by Castiel, whom he threw across the room easily. He watched with satisfaction as the weak angel was knocked out by the force of the throw. He went to the panic room where he saw Robert Singer with the colt, and he was shot in the head and Lucifer dropped.

Gabriel snorted with laughter, “Dumbasses,” He said as Dean and Sam, even Bobby looked back at his mocking laugh as Lucifer stood and smirked and put his hand through Bobby’s Chest.

“Aw too bad, it doesn’t kill archangels you foolish human,” Lucifer said with a smirk and Bobby dropped and Lucifer put out the holy fire, and then trapped the two brothers in the room.

Lucifer looked to Sam and smirked before pinning Dean to the wall. And then the torture of Dean Winchester’s body was done by Lucifer. Gabriel watched, guarding the door, his eyes dark as he looked to Dean, who’s every motion cried out for help from a God who didn’t care anymore, that much was sure. No matter how much torture they ever did to a human they never touched a soul. Ever. Just the human body.

The purpose of this was to get Sam to say yes, which after several hours of yelling from Dean, came. Sam said yes, and Lucifer was pleased. He was pleased with Gabriel too when the younger archangel had kept them in place. They had left Dean after that so they could go about and keep going with the apocalypse.
--
Six months later would be the showdown of Michael and Lucifer. Michael would not wear Dean, but the man’s half brother, Adam. That was his mistake. That had gotten Michael killed by Lucifer, and the purging of Earth began.
--
Dean Winchester after four years would still be a thorn in their side, the Winchester leading forces of resistance against the demons and Croatoans. Dean Winchester and his fallen angel were making themselves an army.

“Brother…We have to stop them. We’ve know where they have been for ages. They cannot truly keep me out,” Gabriel snarled, wings twitching in anger. Lucifer looked at him and smiled.
“Of course brother, go and slaughter them with some of the others. Just bring Dean Winchester in. Feel free to kill Castiel,” Gabriel nodded at his brother’s words and then he left in a flutter of his black and gold wings.

That day with his army, they met Dean and his army at a army base out in Nevada. He was amused by this as he stared at Dean, watching the Human whose soul with defiant and…even in the face of all this, it surprised Gabriel. How could one that has gone through so much still be strong? He only heard one thought in the Winchester’s mind.

For Sammy.

Then the anger and yell broke free of Dean as he lead the attack. Gabriel and his warriors fought. The armies were almost evenly matched as the demons and humans slaughtered each other mercilessly. The last one standing besides Dean and Gabriel was Castiel, but even then he was falling to his knees, knife through his chest as he fell dying… The look on Dean’s face was pure anger and shock as he lunged at Gabriel, who threw him back and forth like a rag doll and then pinned him to the ground.

“Go ahead, kill me,” Dean snarled and Gabriel only grinned.

“That would be too easy, it’s much easier to keep you chained up and alive and very aware of how lost this world is to me and Lucifer,” He grinned at Dean’s horrified look even as Gabriel knocked him out.

Gabriel waited to make sure Dean was out before he let out a soft gasp and he shuddered and his wings drooped as he felt tears stinging at his eyes for the first time in years. This reminded him too much of the war in Heaven, and Dean reminded him too much of the slain Michael. Gabriel didn’t know why he felt like this, why his grace twisted and shuddered as if repulsed by itself.

Gabriel looked to Castiel and felt a tug on his grace when he saw his dead brother. He couldn’t help but feel horrible. He didn’t want any of his brothers dying after Michael. So he did something that later he would realize had been the start to getting something he had long thought he’d lost back
.
He resurrected Castiel, and in doing that, he felt a spark of something in his grace. He didn’t think anything of it as he picked up Castiel’s unconscious form and then he picked up Dean as well and then he returned to the mansion he and Lucifer stayed in, in Lawrence Kansas. He arrived in one of the dungeons in the home. He locked Dean up and then put his brother in a magnificent guestroom. He adjusted it so that the windows were locked and barred and then had a series of locks on the doors…Something only he could open, not Lucifer.

He wanted his fallen brother, who had fallen for entirely different reasons than he did, safe. He went over to Lucifer in one of the two master bedrooms and he shed his battle armor for a more comfortable outfit. His favorite tan jacket, majenta shirt and blue jeans… Lucifer smiled at him.

“I see that you are alive and you have Dean Winchester?” He asked, though it was clear he knew the answer. Gabriel wouldn’t be here if he hadn’t succeeded.

“Of course Brother,” He said with a roll of his eyes and Lucifer smiled and got up.

“Good, I shall have a word with him…He is in the dungeons?” He asked as he looked over Gabriel, who nodded curtly and watched as his brother left without another word.

Gabriel waited as he heard screams and shouting from below and he wanted to grind his teeth in frustration even as he got up and started pacing before he decided, fuck it. He then went and went into Castiel’s room. He saw his brother awake and sitting on the bed, looking around. His eyes landed on Gabriel.

“Oh. I thought…” But Castiel falls silent and Gabriel frowns at him.

“You thought you had been brought back by Dad?” He asked curiously, the other angel nodded silently.

Gabriel was quiet for a long moment before speaking once more,

“Hungry?” He asked quietly. Castiel looked at him oddly before nodding and Gabriel made food appear in seconds. Gabriel could still hear Dean’s screams and he knew Castiel could hear them too, but the other angel or well, mortal angel gave a sigh and ate as much as he could.

“What are you doing Gabriel? Why did you bring me back?” Castiel asked after a long moment and Gabriel shrugged.

“Didn’t want to see another brother die,” He said quietly, and it was the honest truth and he knew Castiel knew it.

“That is not the Gabriel I knew before the death of Michael…You’ve changed,” He said softly, “Even if a little,” Gabriel didn’t know how to respond to that so he stayed silent.

He was anxious already but then the screams intensified and Gabriel stiffened and then left the room to appear in the dungeon, to see Lucifer’s hand in Dean’s chest, and the Older Archangel attacking Dean’s soul. Seeing this made him sick even as unknown to him, the small spark became a small campfire in his grace as this fire started to change Gabriel…The archangel was furious as he grabbed his brother and flung him across the room, forcing him to let go of Dean’s damaged soul.

Lucifer looked shocked at what he’d done, even as Dean’s yells went to whimpers as he looked up at Gabriel and his soul was shredded to bits. Tears were streaming down his face as he gave horrible sobs and yet…yet his mind wasn’t broken somehow. His body and soul might have been shredded, but his mind wasn’t, even as Gabriel glared at Lucifer.

“We agreed to NEVER harm the soul of a human!” Gabriel growled but Lucifer sneered at him, “Where’s the fun in torture if I can’t tear at his very being. I’ve wanted to do that to this one for years, brother, years!” Lucifer growled.

“Fuck off, Lucifer, you had your fun, you can do this later!” Gabriel snarled and Lucifer eyed him for a moment before vanishing. Gabriel turned to Dean and he saw Dean was hanging limp in the chains. How he was breathing, Gabriel didn’t know, but he healed Dean, who jerked away from his touch at first but Gabriel let out a huff.

“I just saved your ass from more torture, don’t fight me here, Winchester,” He growled in a low voice and Dean just let out a low whimper, his soul still in bits and it had Lucifer’s claw marks all over it.

He didn’t ask Dean if he wanted this. He just put his hand into Dean’s chest and then got a hold of his soul, and he pieced it hack together and he felt Dean shivering around him and Dean wasn’t screaming, Dean was watching him, saw the concentration on his face as he managed to get Dean’s soul back to the way it had been. He had soon brought his hand out and he pulled his sleeve back down.

“’M sorry. He got carried away…” Gabriel mumbled and Dean looked surprised to even hear that from Gabriel, who shakily messed up Dean’s hair before he went and sat down.

“Why…? Why would you care if he touched my soul or not…?” Dean coughed out. Gabriel was silent for a while.

“Because souls shine, they show life, the life that my father created…It reminds me of my grace before it was tainted, but your light would still be so much dimmer... Yet it’s still there. It’s still light. I like light…” He watches Dean’s soul, glad it was back together. He saw Dean eying him.

“You’re…different now…” He muttered, Gabriel snorted.

“That makes you think I’m different? Well…I told Lucifer not to mess with anyone’s soul when it came to torture. He broke his word…I needed to show him I hadn’t forgotten that I’d told him that. He needed to be reminded of it…” He stood and flexed his wings, and he saw Dean eyeing the visible appendages.

“You’d do anything for your brother, wouldn’t you?” Dean asked as he tilted his head, eyes clouded as he eyed the angel in front of him.

“…Yeah I guess. I have my limits though…There are just certain things I don’t like. Torture of souls included…” Gabriel smoothed out his coat and looked him over.

“I was going to torture you…but I think Lucifer laid claim to that…” He trails off and looked at Dean again. Holding his soul had changed his perspective on the man…They were too similar as to how they looked at their brothers, and it scared him.

He leaves after a few seconds and appears in his master bedroom to see Lucifer there, standing at the Window.

“Brother,” Lucifer said calmly as he looked back at Gabriel.

“I crossed a line we drew, I know, but that one deserves it.” Lucifer growls and Gabriel sees the trapped soul of Sam Winchester in his own body, smothered by Lucifer’s dark grace.

“Maybe, Maybe not, but his SOUL is off limits!” Gabriel snarled, and that’s when Lucifer’s gaze became steely.

“I’ll do what I want Gabriel. Do you know what you are to me now with Michael gone? Disposable!” Lucifer hissed angrily before punching Gabriel in the face and Gabriel stumbled back, shocked and his wings pinned to his vessel’s sides. His…his brother had never struck him before, never been like this to him. He’d never been on the receiving end of injury of any sort from Lucifer…and what he said…

“You know you’re weaker than me, Gabriel! You’d never be able to kill me. But you…I could kill you in a heartbeat. You were doomed to be my little servant from the start!” Lucifer said with a sneer, and Gabriel’s nose healed as the blood slid thickly down his nose.

Now that…that hurt. A lot. He narrowed his eyes and with a flap of his wings he appeared in Castiel’s room, Castiel looked up and saw Gabriel and his eyes widened.

“What happened?” He asked and Gabriel shook his head even as Dean’s screams started again.

He didn’t think he should say anything to Castiel, he just knew Castiel was warily hugging him and wiped the blood away. Gabriel stiffened for a moment but then relaxed into in, one of his four wings wrapping silently around Castiel. He’d have to wait until Dean wasn’t screaming…

“GABRIEL!” Lucifer called through the house and Gabriel flinched before vanishing, leaving Castiel where he was, the mortal angel looking sad for Gabriel…

Gabriel appeared in the hallway to see his brother striding through the hall, eyes hard.

“Heal him,” Lucifer growled before going into his room and slamming the door closed. Gabriel found himself scared of what he might see even as he went downstairs and saw Dean hanging limp in the chains holding him. He swallowed and approached Dean, his soul completely shredded and his mind…it was barely there, hanging on by a thread.

Dean’s breathing was labored and there were chunks of him on the floor. Dean spat out blood onto the floor and tried to breathe as he looked up to Gabriel.

“I should let you die…but Lucifer would only bring you back…” Gabriel whispered, still shaken and hating how…how Lucifer had spoken to him. It had hurt like a physical stab to his grace. Dean looks at him and seems to see Gabriel’s anguish for he says…

“Your brother’s an insane dick, he kept talking about ways he…was gonna kill you if…if you stepped out of line,” Dean coughed as Gabriel reached out and healed Dean again, the Winchester waiting….Waiting for the next part…his soul being put back together. Gabriel put his hand into Dean’s chest again and put his soul back together.

It went on for weeks. Lucifer would torture Dean and Gabriel would have to clean up the mess while in the time inbetween he spent time with Castiel, who was watching him carefully. All the while Lucifer kept asserting his authority everywhere. Making Gabriel go across the world for a single beer and then throwing it at Gabriel when it was the wrong one. He was walking all over Gabriel knowing that Gabriel wouldn’t fight back, couldn’t without dying.

One day he went down to find Dean so broken he was clawing onto his sanity, trying to keep it, but he was slipping off and on…There was nothing Gabriel could- wait…

“Dean…Hey Dean look at me,” He muttered. He’d grown fond of the Winchester, having felt like he was in the same situation for a small while now and he was pleased to see that Dean looked up to him, his hazel eyes confused and filled with an emotional pain.

“I know something that can help you,” He says and Dean’s eyes widened in shock as he slowly nodded. Gabriel smiled faintly and snapped his fingers, Castiel appearing there.

“Cas!” Dean said hoarsely as Castiel looked to Dean and went up to the Winchester and hugged him tight.

“Cas is it really you?” Dean asked through a happy sob as Cas kissed Dean’s forehead.

“it is indeed me, Dean. I have been here for weeks, waiting for when Gabriel would bring me down to help you.” Castiel muttered as he ran hands through Dean’s longer hair.

Gabriel sat quietly. He was scared, scared of all of this. He felt like he had heartburn of something nowadays, and he was absently rubbing his chest when Dean seemed to catch the movement and looked to him.

“What’s with you, why are you doing that?” Dean asked, catching Castiel’s attention who now looked to Gabriel.

“Dunno…just…stressed I guess,” He muttered before getting into a more comfortable position on his chair.

“Hurry up, before I have to take Castiel back upstairs,” He says quietly, even then feeling like his chest is on fire. Gabriel is sure he’s seconds from making some sort of sound before Castiel is done and Gabriel’s taking Castiel to his room and then quickly leaving to his, where he goes into the bathroom and collapses silently onto the cool tile floor. He curled up on himself as he struggled not to scream.

Something was wrong…He wasn’t supposed to feel like his very grace is on fire! The pain was horrible enough that when he couldn’t stand it anymore, he passed out on the ground, going still but for the twitching of wings…
