i am here.
there are monsoons and women's urinals and cold bucket-showers and thousand-year-old caves and temples every day--incense, wet men wrapped in orange cloth doing pooja, gods and godsandgodsandgods. (then saints.) cows and goats and pigs and dogs and monkeys, there are monkeys in the trees, and peacocks.
everything.
and those pictures of half-naked children squatting in fields?
yes.
right outside the houses made of mud and straw.
the people are shockingly poor, and there are shocking numbers of them. if "suburban" or "rural" generally implies fewer people--only slightly. everything dirty and hot; the streets are strewn with refuse and garbage.
most of the people have never seen a white person. schoolchildren follow me down the streets, beggars (half the population) yell in broken english (persistently), men follow and yell.
i love it.
note-- address correction. should be "back side of S.N.D.T., off law college road." might get here regardless; unsure.
