Teaser: Sometimes, it’s just fun to stare at the sky and let your imagination wander.

It was a perfect day. The sun was shining in a crystal blue sky, and puffy white clouds filled the heavens overhead, providing some simple, free entertainment for many a child down below. Because sometimes, as every wise person knows, it is just a fun, happy thing to stare at the sky in wonder and let your imagination go where it will.

Luke and Flora were two such children. They had made their way to a park, and found a perfect spot on a hillside to do a little cloud-gazing. They had sprawled out on their backs in the grass with little regard for stains or their clothes, and their eyes were towards the sky, seeking out familiar shapes in the fluffy white blobs that were the clouds.

Flora pointed towards one that was moving slowly overhead; there was just enough of a breeze that the clouds were both moving and changing in shape, providing a seemingly neverending list of cloud shapes to find and identify by their imaginations. “That one looks like the Professor’s car, don’t you think? The top part is sort of rounded like the Laytonmobile.”

“Oh, you’re right!” Luke agreed. “Did you know he had that car specially made so he could wear his hat while he drove it?” Flora turned her head to look at him in surprise, and he nodded. “It’s true.”

Flora blinked, then seemed to decide to let it go and turned her eyes back to the sky and the clouds, which were already shifting and taking on new shapes. “What do you see?”

After a moment of studying the clouds, Luke pointed. “That one looks like Ramon from St. Mystere. You can see the nose and the lips.” He shuddered slightly. That guy’s mouth had secretly freaked him out, but polite society did not permit him to say as much.

“Oh, I see it!” Flora said happily. “That one looks like Claudia. The part on the left looks like her claws.”

“Y-yes…” Luke said. He remembered Claudia’s claws a little too well after chasing her all over town.

They kept going, seeking shape after shape in the clouds. Before long, they had successfully found a boat, the Crown Jewels, three ponies, Italy, Father Christmas, and a happy cloud that Flora thought looked just like Luke. He insisted that his hair didn’t stick out that much; she begged to differ.

They were so wrapped up in it all that they didn’t notice someone approaching them on the hillside. At least, they didn’t notice until they heard a familiar baritone say, “Are you having fun?”

They both sat up and looked to the source of the voice. “Professor!”

Layton was holding two books under his arm, and looked amused. “I thought it was you. Searching the clouds?” When they nodded, he asked, “What have you found?”

“A whole load of things!” Luke said proudly.

The Professor looked up towards the sky ro a long moment, as though pondering some great mystery of the universe. Then he cocked his head to the side and said, “That one looks like my hat.”
