Title: In Lieu of Rumors
Author: Candyland (candy__chan)
Fandom: Beauty and the Beast: A pretty girl meets a beast in a cursed castle full of adorable enchanted objects. Can she see beyond the surface and find true love and work a miracle and make him all hot and stuff? …duh. It’s a fairy tale.

Taunt: My fandom’s main character doesn’t actually have a name (I call him Jerome).

After a time, news reached her ears: word had come of the Prince’s impending wedding.

She listened as the official announcement was read to the provincial village where she was currently staying, listened as the local peasants burst into excited jabbering at the sound of it. But it was quite the news: a royal wedding didn’t happen every day!

Still, the rumors were bound to surface sooner or later. After all, the Prince had gone missing a long time before, or so the stories said. There were tales of some great misfortune befalling him. But it seemed that he had returned, and with a bride to boot.

After the proclamation had been read, she sought out the messenger who had brought it-an official messenger from the palace itself. And she inquired as to the state of affairs at the palace and as to the soon-to-be princess, seeking to find fact in lieu of rumors.

The messenger-a swarthy older man clad in a dark red uniform-told her that there had been dark times upon the castle, things that he was not at liberty to discuss. But the arrival of the bride-to-be had changed everything. When pressed about her, he described her as a lovely girl of common birth, but beautiful of face and pleasant of demeanor. She was intelligent, kind, and a good person, and she made the Prince very, very happy. He was very much in love with her, and she with him.

Listening to the messenger speak of her, it was obvious that while his feelings towards the girl (whose name was Belle) were more paternal than anything else, he also thought quite highly of her.

Interesting. So very interesting.

She thanked the messenger for satisfying her curiosity and let him return to his business. But the story and the descriptions of the girl had pleased the woman. It meant that she had been successful. It seemed that a beast could change his coat after all, before the last petal fell from an enchanted rose.

As she left the milling crowds to their excitement, a very wise, very knowing Enchantress smiled.

PS. The one thing about this movie that always sort of confused me was the fact that a prince essentially vanishes…and no one seems to notice xD Hence the mention of rumors, just to satisfy my own need for an explanation there. Thanks for reading, all! Much love!
