w00t crickets

While I was sleeping last night, I experienced a phenomenon often described to me by my sister first hand.  I was sleeping... and for some reason I woke up.  I put my hand on my chest, and in my half sleep stupor, I remember my mind saying, "OMGWTFTHATSABUG!" And instinctively flicked it off.  I guess sleeping Candace was satisfied to hear it bounce off my laptop and out of sight.

Today, I got up and took my shower as usual.  The cats were playing in the box that I shipped my books in.  I thought that was unusual.  And there was something on the floor they kept staring at.  They also kept trying to peek under the door into the closet.  I was like, okay whatever.

Sometime during the morning, I unpacked my books and set them aside, and a cricket eventually crawled out.  I called the minions into the bedroom, and we watched them take turns playing with the cricket for quite a while.  It was really amusing.  I also came to realise that thing on the floor was a cricket leg.

My cat in New Jersey used to love to eat crickets.  When we first moved into that house, we had a bad cricket problem.  He at them ALL.  We don't have them anymore, lol!  And he used to leave the back legs all over our floor, because the prickly part was hard on the gums I guess.

Well, my sister's cats don't have all their teeth anymore.  So I was amazed to see what skill and accuracy these little creatures had in manipulating the cricket.  At one point, one of them held the cricken in his paws, claws wrapped around it like a little keratin cage, and held it like he had in the palm of a hand!!  He couldn't eat it, though.  It was too spikey.  I actually heard him sigh a couple of times, because he couldn't figure out how to get the legs off, and it bothered his toothless mouth.

After a while I felt bad for the cricket.  Neither of them ate it.  They just kept playing with it.  I had hoped it was dead so it wouldn't be tortured anymore.  But you know, all cats do that.  Cats can really be merciless.  At least in our eyes.  I figure, if they all do it, they're just doing what's right by them.   You can't expect them to do much more than that.

By the way, if you talk to your pet like it's a dumb animal, it will behave as such.  These two, I'm trying to get them on par with my cats back home :3  I'm teaching them tag, lol.  I gotta record that and my cat walking on the leash.

eww! :x, cats, wtf
