well. i'm back online.
fuck, its hard to suppress my internet needs when i'm in the middle of fuckin' no where.
thanks, Shepherdstown.
thanks, West Virginia.
oh, that's right:
if you i havent mentioned it (and don't be offended if i haven't mentioned it, it's been tough to juggle all the crap of moving out of berkeley, finishing up my internship, finding new housing, and moving across the country for the summer...i just didnt get around to it...) i'm no longer in California. at least not for the first 6 weeks of summer.
i left last friday morning and showed up here after 3 days of driving clear across the U.S. and goddamn, that was tough. i thought i was gonna go crazy.
i'm currently living in a dorm on the campus of Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV.
fuckin' random, right?
well...
after completing the internship in the Props Shop at A.C.T., i didnt have many options for theatrical employment (which is becoming the case for a lot of fucking people, right?) so i seized the opportunity offered in summer-stock theater that specifically was not with Shakespeare Santa Cruz. it's a step up from intern, though! i mean, i'm now listed as the official Props Carpenter / Assistant Props Master for the festival, which is cool, even though i'm thoroughly terrified that i'm still too underqualified to be an assisstant, let alone a real artisan or a fuckin carpenter. i'm hoping that my current work relationship with my boss (who i drove here with for 3 days, and was supposed to live with once i got here) will help me through the bullshit of being new to a summer-stock repertory company...
and just as i was about to write off Shakes as a possibility, they offered me a part-time job for when i got back! so that was sweet. i go from a full repertory build for the Contemporary Arts Theater Festival, have a week off to visit some grad schools (University of Connecticut's Puppetry Program, and University of Delaware's Technical Production Department), and then i'm back on july 18th, and start work in the Cruz that following monday.
it's a lot, i know. i won't stop working till right before my birthday in september...
i think in a year (since i left Santa Cruz and started working in august), i will have completed at least 17 full productions (9 shows with ACT, 5 with CATF, and 3 with SSC).
and after that...
who knows? i gotta find a job to pay off my loans, save up for grad school apps, and on the off-chance i get into a school i gotta pay for it...
so...that what's been going on behind all my previous (vague) postings.
life's fucking crazy.
but at least i have the internet again.
