This past Sunday,
tinomenwprlock and I went to Cleveland for Les Claypool's The Oddity Faire - A Mutated Mini Fest
The first band we saw were called Secret Chiefs 3, and their music style is best described on the Wikipedia: Secret Chiefs 3, also known as SC3, is a group of musicians led by composer and producer Trey Spruance, former guitarist of Mr. Bungle and Faith No More. Their studio recordings and tours have featured different line-ups, as the group performs a wide range of musical styles including surf rock, Persian, Arabic, Indian, death metal, film music, electronic music, and various others.
They wore hooded cloaks and looked like a group of medieval executioners, and I really loved their sound. :)
The second musician was called Saul Williams. He and his band had the look of P-Funk, but the sound was like Public Enemy, Body Count, and NIN. Speaking of NIN, Tim found out after buying Saul's CD that the album is produced by Trent Reznor.
The third band was Devotchka. This was the second time I've seen Devotchka, the first time was opening for Dresden Dolls. Their sound is very Mariachi, gypsy, Folk, Punk influenced, and I've liked them since the first time I heard them. They did a fantastic cover of Velvet Underground's song Venus In Furs and their orginal material was great as well.
The forth band was Les Claypool. Now, Les Claypool has a billion side projects (ex. Primus, Sausage, Frog Brigade, etc). The band he had with him this time around played 2 sets of drums, cello, and xylophone. I very much love the sound of percussion, especially when it's done well. Les brought out his different instruments (bass guitar, penny whistle, string bass, and whatever else I couldn't name). Their set was magical, and I really enjoyed the sound he made with the other musicians.
This was the first time I drove out of state. I had no problem going to or coming from, until I hit Route 51 on my way back, and some douchebag in a truck almost rear ended me to speed through a red light. douchebag...
Anyhow, we also stopped at IHOP in Cleveland and I got some strawberry crepes. OMG they were tasty!!! I was disappointed when I found out that they didn't have rootbeer though. I always drink rootbeer or water when I go out for meals. You'll see me on one of those A&W commercials drinking out of the barrel. :P
In other news, Cleveland still smells like ass to me, and I welcomed the Pennsylvania air when we came back. Yes, IMO we have better air than Ohio.
And because of shitty air, I have a horrible cold now. THANKS ALOT CLEVELAND!!!
