Overboard [Chiitaro]

8-year-old Ryutaro was searching for his baseball underneath the bushes. He scowled as the itchy leaves and branches touched his skin but decided it was all for his beloved ball. Several minutes later, he was about to give up when he noticed a white paper on the ground. He picked it up and realized it was a photo of a little girl in a dress. She was the prettiest person he’d ever seen. His little heart started beating faster as he put it in his pocket. He saw his ball beside a bench and ran towards his little brother while thinking, “My first love.”
“Why’d you bring me here, Ryuu-chan?” Chinen cocked his head to one side. Ryutaro just had to look away so the older couldn’t see his red cheeks.
They were at the rooftop in the late afternoon. A cold breeze blew and Chinen shivered slightly. He watched the view of the sunset and just gazed at it, waiting for the darkness to come. It was so beautiful that everything else just seemed irrelevant at the moment.
A pair of arms on his waist brought him back to reality and his cheeks automatically reddened as the younger planted a kiss on his head. Ryutaro made the older face him and put a finger under his chin. Their lips met and they let it linger for a moment more before breaking away with smiles on their faces. Another breeze blew past and they huddled even closer, watching the sun set.
Ryutaro took out his wallet and pulled out an old picture, the picture of his first love. A small smile graced his lips and he looked at the Chinen who was staring at the sunset again. He remembered the day he showed it to the older boy and how he was tackled to the ground by Chinen saying that he lost that picture when he was 10 years old. Ryutaro asked him why he was wearing girl clothes and the older blushed, saying that his mom liked dressing him up as a boy when he was younger.
He rested his cheek on top of Chinen’s head as the older cuddled closer. They both watched as the sun went down completely and soon, the sky was dark as the stars flooded the night sky.
