For:
hotfruits He tried to stifle the sneezes which sounded like a squeaky toy. Ugh, he hated the feeling of being sick. His nose was already red and he thought that at this rate, he’d have antlers growing out of his head. He pulled his jacket closer and buried himself deeper in his scarf. Why, of all the 365 days in the whole year, did he have to get sick today? He was supposed to confess to Ryutaro Morimoto today with the help of his friends, Nakajima Yuto, Yamada Ryosuke and Okamoto Keito. He had feelings for the younger ever since that incident but he was just too chicken to confess. But now that he had gathered enough courage to, he just had to get sick.
A gust of wind blew in his direction and he shivered. He was panting heavily since he got tired from walking from the train station to his school. His parents told him to stay home but he refused, saying that he needed to learn. He started feeling light-headed and dizzy. Everything was just a blur. Students were gathering around him.
Ryutaro was running late for early morning practice for the baseball club. He was jogging towards the school entrance when he saw a group of students crowding around no other than Chinen. The small boy was pale and he didn’t look okay. He was swaying slightly as he tried standing up.
Chinen was one step away, only one more step but his body wasn’t responding. He kept swaying and swaying because he was so dizzy. Then, he couldn’t take it anymore. His legs gave in and he was ready to meet the ground but he felt strong arms around his waist. His eyes fluttered open and he could faintly make out Ryutaro’s face.
“Chinen? Chinen? Are you okay?” Yup, it was Ryutaro. Chinen groaned and tried standing up but failed since his head started aching.
“R-Ryutaro?” He rasped out. Ryutaro put a concerned hand over Chinen’s forehead and quickly removed it since he was burning hot.
“Chinen, you’re sick. Come on, I’ll take you to the infirmary.” He slid his arms under Chinen’s legs. The older boy let out a small squeak and started flailing around as much as he can.
“I-I can go by myself, t-thank you.” Chinen started walking away towards the infirmary. Ryutaro eyed him carefully, ready to swoop down and help in case Chinen needed him.
“Great Chinen, you just have to cross the field and the infirmary’s there.” Chinen said to himself. He was already halfway there when his head started throbbing painfully and soon, his legs gave in and he lost all consciousness.
Ryutaro was following Chinen to the infirmary since he was worried that the older boy might escape or something. It’s a good thing he did so, though. Chinen was halfway through the field when he collapsed. Ryutaro dropped his bag and carried Chinen bridal style towards the clinic, leaving him in the care of the young doctor named Inoo Kei.
As soon as the bell rang for recess, Ryutaro flew out of his seat and ran for the clinic. Chinen was still there, unconscious. Ryutaro sat down beside the bed, grabbed the sick boy’s warm hands and kissed it softly. He had feelings for the older boy ever since that incident.
“Uhm…” Ryutaro turned around and saw the pretty doctor.
“Are you Chinen-kun’s boyfriend?” The doctor asked with innocent eyes.
Ryutaro almost fell off his chair. He blushed and looked down. “N-No. I’m his… f-friend.” He managed to stutter out.
“Ah, well, we have a slight problem with Chinen-kun.” The doctor put on his glasses and was reading from a clipboard.
“Since he’s been unconscious, I can’t make him drink some medicine. He needs it to feel better or at least, lower down his temperature.” Ryutaro took one look at Chinen before he lowered his head slightly so that his bangs were covering his eyes.
“Give me the medicine.” He said in a monotonous tone as his hand shot out.
The doctor dropped a small tablet in his hand. Ryutaro popped in his mouth and drank some water. He went to Chinen’s bed and held him up.
“Morimoto-kun, I don’t think that’s such a good i-“ Before the doctor could even finish his sentence, the young boy put his lips to the sick one’s, his one hand holding the older’s chin to keep his mouth open and the other holding tightly on the other’s waist. He transferred the medicine to the other’s mouth and soon, Chinen was coughing and sitting up straight, almost hitting Ryutaro’s nose.
“W-Wha?” Chinen looked up and saw Ryutaro with a blank look on his face and a smirking doctor.
“Chinen-kun!” Said person looked at the elder.
“Thank goodness you’re awake! You’ve been unconscious for the past 2 hours. If it wasn’t for Morimoto-kun giving you the medicine orally…”
“ORALLY?!” Chinen gasped out and he whipped his head towards Ryutaro, who had his back to him.
“Yes, orally. You wouldn’t be awake now.” The doctor finished. Chinen lowered his head in embarrassment.
Sensing the awkward atmosphere, Inoo-sensei excused himself and left the two alone.
“U-Uhm…” Chinen was the one who broke the silence first.
“I-I’m gonna go now…” Ryutaro turned on his heels and was about to walk out when he felt a hand grip his arm. He looked back and saw Chinen with an adorable pout on his face.
“W-Why?” Chinen said softly.
Ryutaro blushed slightly before answering, “It’s because you wouldn’t take your medicine and you were so sick and I couldn’t think of any other way to make you drink it.” He added the last part quietly.
Without even knowing, Chinen felt hot tears slide down his cheeks. He let go of Ryutaro’s arms and sobbed. Ryutaro looked at Chinen’s shoulders going up and down and the tears fall down his cheeks that he wanted desperately to wipe away. Impulsively, he wrapped his arms around Chinen’s small waist and pulled him close to his chest where Chinen cried even more. He hugged him tighter, not caring if his uniform got wet.
“Why are you doing this Ryutaro? Why?” He could hear the sadness in his voice.
“I love you, Chinen. I’ve always have.” He couldn’t bear it. He couldn’t keep it in anymore.
Chinen looked up and surprise was apparent in his face before cuddling on Ryutaro’s chest, his heart beating faster than normal.
“I l-love Ryutaro, too.”
Ryutaro cupped his cheeks and pressed his lips softly against the older boy’s. Chinen kissed back. They let it linger on for a moment more before breaking away, leaning their foreheads on each other’s. The younger one caressed Chinen’s cheek before he grabbed it and intertwined their fingers.
“I love you, Chinen.” He just had to say it one more time. His heart was beating a mile a minute.
“I love you too, Ryutaro.” Chinen smiled and the younger one’s breath hitched.
Ryutaro pulled Chinen up from the bed and put a protective arm around his waist.
“Are you feeling okay now?” Worry was dripping from his voice.
Chinen turned to him and smiled weakly before slightly nodding his head so he won’t get dizzy again. He gently pried Ryutaro’s arm off his waist and intertwined their fingers instead as they walked out of the infirmary together.
Inoo-sensei was hiding behind a wall and smiled as he watched the two walk down the hallway towards the field.
