Today's the day of my AP Euro test!

Jan 10, 2009 08:52

Also? This is kind of cool.

My parents are from North Vietnam! I never asked them how they felt about the war. A little while after the war, they were persecuted for being Chinese. Vietnam's so odd;
I guess I know what my next research is on~

My mom woke up really early today to buy banh cuon from Chinatown! LET'S TALK ABOUT FOOD. I love eating duck ( Read more... )

this is cool, it is cold, socialism, ap euro

..I can't believe you read the whole entry. XD ♥ candy_savage January 11 2009, 06:38:25 UTC
...argh, i'm thinking I got the term wrong, mesmerism/mesmering @__@ my friends said something about popularizing science to the masses? Uh, i'll see..
Jonathan Swift, he only got a one or two sentence MENTION in the chapter, and it was put in the test! He apparently wrote Gulliver's Travels, significant because it was a popular example of what the philosophical tale genre novel was--

..but of course, I didn't get that one right either.

THAT OUTFIT. I SAW THAT ON WIKI AND I WANTED TO DRAW IT TOO XD!! Let's both draw it! Pfft, poor France. I saw a list of all of France's losses in wars, it was so devastating;;
NAPOLEON~ I want to learn about him too, soon! He seems like such a cute figure in history.

..honestly, when it comes to the French, all I know is that they helped out immensely in the American Revolution, and theeen they had one of their own somewhere along the line. I'm pretty bad at the genre--but i'm hoping this will change!

(I KNEW SOMETHING WAS UP. WASN'T LOUIS XIV THE SUN KING AELFHsdjkgbngb
I could have swooorn I saw it typed XIV *slaps own face REPEATEDLY*)

I do not know what mesmering is either...

Why do teachers do that? We are always told, "Take notes on the main idea and not on the little minute details," yet the minute details are the ones that end up on the test orz.

THE GUY IN THE PAINTING EVEN LOOKS LIKE FRANCIS. See, look at the hair. If he stopped taking such lengths to make his hair look sliky smooth, it would look like that picture.

Okay, let's both draw it, then. :) Yours will be so much better than mine though (seen your artwork in your other entries, it is awesome).

Also comment-stalking...Francis probably would be pervy Francis. Just in a more subtle manner. Danton has a reputation for being a ladies' man, and he's famous for this let's-rebut-virtue-loving-Robespierre quote, "Virtue is what I do with my wife every night". And then there's de Sade, while not really being a revolutionary, lived during that time. And we all know what his name became integrated into.

My class is on Napoleon right now, in fact. Well, what I meant about him getting majorly pwned by Ivan is that Russia broke from Napoleon's continental system. So France then wanted to invade his vital regions. Russia went, "Oh no! France's army is much larger than mine! Maybe I shouldn't go into battle...I should just destroy them slowly instead. Kolkolkolkolkol~ (etc.)" So the Russians then retreated but used the scorched earth method, and let food shortages and harsh weathers basically pwn Napoleon's army, who usually lived off the land they were invading. Yeah, there were battles, but since he basically conquered nothing, France was forced to go back.
tl;dr: Like I said before, Ivan pwns Francis.

Yeah, Louis XIV = Sun King. ^^b

Googled de Sade: I change my mind, Francis is totally perfect. *slaps face*;

In the video I watched, they said Danton was more the people's person than Robespierre, and theeen that led up to the execution of Robespierre and we will show you hoooow-- then my teacher stopped the film!
I googled Robespierre, and.. yeah, woah, willing to sacrifice EVERYTHING for virtue, seriously determined;; Danton's quote HAHA so much win win win ♥ if only the setting wasn't the French Revolu--

...oh my god, Danton was guillotined too?! WHAT THE HELL. WHAAAAAAAT THE @____@

Russia's so clever~ Go Russia!
Ivan's so scary, he'd probably make my FACE melt off if I ever had eye contact with the guy. (I think he's the only character i'm not really fond of;;) His sisters though, hell YES.

On that note, one more thing we should draw.

Also, what do you think is Francis' attitude about the Revolution? I saw him as kind of reluctant ('cause of the whole blood thirst thing :x) but I haven't really gone through this period in time yet.

Told you so. :P And apparently you don't want to read his books. I remember a conversation with one of my history geek friends, she told me with emphasis, not to read them. Unless you like the feeling of wanting to bleach your brain.

And Francis is also perfect for the Napoleonic Wars. Cutting off all trade in the empire/continental system with England in hopes of ruining their economy (backfired though), and then when Napoleon divorces his first wife Josephine and marries the Austrian archduchess 22 years his junior.

Eee, I have a few qualms about that History Channel documentary. While I admit that it was one of the leading factors that got me interested in the first place, there's still quite a few inaccuracies. Not to mention they really only concentrated on the "OMGVIOLENCE!!11!1" of the revolution, and as one person said in the revolution_fr comm (yes, there is a French Revolution comm on LJ. And it's semi-active!), they give Robespierre so much credit that "you'd almost expect to believe that he controlled the weather."

Yeah, Danton was guillotined too. He had an epic final line, though: "Show my head to the people. It'll be worth it."

Ivan could probably make everyone's face melt off, just because he is Ivan. :P

Those uniforms are so pretty. *_* And probably pretty damn expensive. There's like, one cuff with all pearls on it and thread made of actual silver. Ooooh.

Hmm, during political events I usually see nation-tans as agreeing with either the majority of the population or their bosses (as they are personifications of countries, after all), so I think he would support it, personally. Enlightenment ideas were strong at the time-many philosophes were French or had lived in France (Voltaire, the Encyclopedie editors, Voltaire, Montesquieu, Rousseau), not to mention the word itself is French. And pre-revolution, it didn't seem like such a happy time-lots of probably repressed anger from those classified as the 3rd estate, even from the nobles as they wanted more power because it was taken away from them by Louis XIV. And besides, him being a bit crazed from the Revolution fits with the circumstances. In the span of a few years, he goes through many, many bosses with many, many differing opinions, and I'm sure all the divisions would make the poor guy confused. Basically, France was the renegade, all like, "WE B REPUBLICANS! WE CRUSH TYRANTS WHOSE IMPURE BLOOD WATERS OUR FIELDS!" (see: France's really intimidating national anthem) And all of the other European powers were like, "EW, REPUBLICANS!" And then there was the Thermidorean Reaction, where the bourgeoisie take over and try to get France more conservative again-it could be Francis's "WTF HAVE I DONE" phase.

So I think he would've been reluctant at first, but as the revolution goes on, he would've been for it. After all, nationalism has its roots in the French Revolution, and perhaps that's where his pride originated? ;) Please feel free to disagree if I'm just rambling incoherently.

Interestingly enough, I've been trying to work out an rp account for 1st-Republic!France (France had like, five republics) for a Hetalia dressing room for a while. His account's terreur_vertu, haven't done anything with him yet, though. It's so hard to find serious!Francis icons. :x

Loooong, but really REALLY awesome to read <3

Yeah, I heard about the vid before I watched it, the person was like "MOST OF THE HISTORIANS IN THERE AREN'T EVEN FRENCH, THIS IS RIDICULOUS" and so on D: And yup, everyone in the room was kind of sick from all the gore the video mentioned.;; But yet, I was caught up in all the French peoples'.. zeal? 'Cause they were starving and SO aaaangry and demanded everything to CHANGE, but then that same zeal ate each other up! MY HEART, BE STILL.

I went CRAZY over the threads made of actual silver too, as in: how do they do that *____*!!

I juuust read a comment about France's anthem in one of the recent scanalations-- HAHA so FIERCE.

I agree with your explanation of Francis's view about the war! I am going to pocket this whole convo away in case I ever do make a few comic pages on it.

Which Hetalia dressing room? I keep up with.. aphdressingroom <- (how do you link up to communities/users? haha) so I hope you're planning on going there! So I can squeal over your reenactments of 1stRepublic!France, of course :D!

I bookmarked a buunch of Hetalia fanartist websites and I don't know what to do with them, so i'll go look through them for serious!Francis pictures tomarrow~

Aww, thanks. xD My lj is kind of like that. When I rant, I rant.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. While American historians probably aren't dumber than French historians, I would think that French historians would be more informed about their history? I mean, we have American history in the US and it concentrates solely on our history.

See: my recent French Rev. rant on my journal. xD

I don't really know. They put the silver in very carefully, I guess? *shot*

FIERCE LIKE CHRISTIAN SIRIANO. Oh, France.

Thanks. ^^ It would be awesome if you did comics on it! I think I saw some posts in the hetalia comm which was like a history lesson with funny pictures to explain them-there was one on the American Revolution and on the Vietnam war, I believe. We should totally co-write one. :O

I'm thinking aphdressingroom (as you said) or hetaliadressing, or maybe both, since they seem the most active. Oh, you flatter me. ^^b Some other options floating in my head are Monaco (I'd probably have to do more research, but the general character I've made up is that she likes gambling and car racing, and is vivacious and known for relations with France), Russian Revolution!Ivan (cool, but I don't have as much knowledge on the Russian Revolution, though, as much I'd love to know more), and English Civil War!England (also need to do more research, but I do have some background knowledge on the war from AP Euro, but I'd love to toy with this concept).

I'd love for 1stRepublic!France and a Japan to collaborate and make this masterpiece.

Once again, thank you!

..I'm not sure if you know about this one XD; if you've already looked through here, i'll look through others!

My sister watched Fashion Runway throughout the summer, I basically picked up the brilliance of Christian through ... osmosis (???)

IF YOU EVER COME UP WITH A SCRIPT, I'D BE HAPPY TO TRY TO DRAW IT OUT. I'm horrible at scripts ♥ ;;;;;;;

...guillotines, fun fun fun

OMG THANK YOU. I am flipping over these pictures. O France, y so fabulous? I especially like this one.

Don't you mean Project Runway? But yes, Christian Siriano is awesome. No wonder he won, even though Rami, Jillian, and Chris were just as good, but Christian the most entertaining, not to mention really talented, so they had to keep him on the show. xP

Yay. ♥ The ones that I was referring to were this and . Maybe we can even make it a two-parter and go into Napoleon, so then you can draw gonnamakeyouretreat!Ivan and more than just crazy!Francis.
