So...I'm sitting in my classroom right now. These little random updates about my day pretty much constitute my morning five-minute break. Nice and therapeutic 8D

Shortly, I get to breeze over to the middle school to run a half-hour study hall period--yesterday and today were early outs. I've been digging through the music library in search of fun SSA pieces for the high school and SAB ones for the middle school--if you don't know what that means, it's the voice parts (SSA = Soprano I, Soprano II, Alto, and SAB = Soprano, Alto, Bass).

Already know that my middle schoolers are doing "God Help the Outcasts," from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I hated that movie, but gaaaaaawd I love that song, and the arrangement is shiny. I think it'll be really awesome :3 I want to try and find a nice balance of four or five pieces per group. Just gotta keep digging.

And I'm pretty sure I'm going to have my high schoolers do a jazz arrangement of "All the Things You Are" as the quote-unquote "fun piece" for the concert. There's another one called "The Lark Ascending" that's beautiful, as well as one called "The Syncopated Clock" that might be sort of fun. I want to find at least one more piece for the high school--preferably a sacred piece or something in another language.

But anyway...it's raining again. And when I say raining, I mean "monsoon seasons has settled over Southeast Iowa." (And man oh man is it weird to type Southeast Iowa when I've lived almost my whole life in Northwest Iowa...) It's not raining cats and dogs--it's raining elephants and whales. Did I mention that in about fifteen minutes I have to walk outside in that to get to my car? YAY FOR ME!

What a time to find out that my side door leaks ^^;; Water is running in from a crack at the top and down the door. It's not spraying or anything, but I am thinking maybe I need a towel or something for over there, just to make sure it doesn't get into the carpet.

So...still to do today!

  • Finalize pieces for first concert, both middle and high school (although I could really give them the ones I've already picked and then just add another one later, if I want. That's not a big deal.)
  • Seating chart, both middle and high school
  • Lesson plans for tomorrow
  • Check on calender for important dates--must ask in office.

    ...I sort of feel like I've got a lot to do, but it's really not as much as it could be. I think. Tomorrow is our first regular day of classes, so it'll be very interesting to see how I function on a "real" school day. So if you don't hear from me tomorrow night, assume the worst. I don't know what exactly the worst would be, but...I doubt it's pleasant *laugh*

    But so far...I like what I'm doing. My first impression of my students was good (I hope my first impression on them was good as well!), and I'm enjoying attempting to get myself organized and have things ready. The next few weeks are going to be QUITE an adventure, I think.

    Oh, and I'm still offering on the Pay It Forward meme. Two more!

    Okay...time to start gathering my things and figuring out the best way to put my bag over my head to keep from getting totally drenched. Mythbusters proved it was better to walk than run in the rain if you want to stay drier--somehow, I don't think it'll matter in this downpour ^^;;
