Amuse me

Feb 14, 2006 22:18

Life is so boring. I wish I could be magically sucked into an adventure.

Nothing ever happens. Ever.

Well, here's a challenge; amuse me!

1. List your top three favorite books.
2. List your top three favorite movies.
3. Write something completely random. About ANYTHING.

Get to it my darlings. :-3

Books:
Umz...Me Talk Pretty One Day, by David Sedaris
-Synopsis: Collection of essays/short stories based on actual life events...he's gay...he's blunt...he's HILARIOUS! The best part is he's actually a good writer, who just so happens to write humour. HIGHLY recommend his books...any of them. If you're in high school, his works will be on your literary merit reading list(s). (I read his work the summer entering my junior year for AP English.)
Black Like Me, by...um, I forgot.
-Synopsis: A biography on this white guy who undergoes this special skin...thing and makes himself black. He then journeys down south to experience the hardships/life of a colored person in a time during civil rights movement. Quite interesting b/c he's a moderately rich white guy from the north and has heard from white colleagues that racism is gone, we treat THEM the same, etc. It's very intriguing...his life is threatened in several parts. Also read this for AP English during my junior year.
Memoirs of a Geisha by...don't remember.
-Synopsis: Movie DOES NOT do it justice. Only recommend watching it if you become a true fan of the book. Otherwise, just read it and save your eyes and precious minutes of life. Story of a geisha...what more can I say? Definitely changes/alters the stereotypes of what geisha really are. (They actually aren't prostitutes.) It taught me something new!

Movies: Comedy...The Hot Chick. (I was crying from laughing so hard.)
White Chicks...again, hilarious! (But then again, I'm half-black...I'm obligated to love it.)

Regular...um...Lord of the Rings, oh. Kong was really REALLY good. (It's directed by Peter Jackson! Director of LOTR.) A cinematic triumph! The movie made you...squirm in your seat...hold your breath...sit at the edge of your seat! Agh...you felt like you were there. If it was anywhere but the movie theatre, you'd be screaming and squealing at the movie. Very good. Way better than the pathetic remake with Marilyn Monroe. But, the original, pre-Monroe edition, was well done (for it's time). So, this one stays pretty close to the original's plot line.

Something random? Um...journalism deadline is coming up. I'm going to keel over because one story is a news article about a literary arts reading on the 24th. Can't write it till that day...which is three days before deadline. Um, other story is a feature that acquaints the entire student body with one randomly selected student. The current randomly selected student is way boring. She has NOTHING she's interested in that's newsworthy. No hobbies. No passions. No goals. No future aspirations. No life altering elements. Nothing. She spends her life flirting with boys, eating, talking on cell phone, listening to music, and checking her myspace. My editor told me to pick someone new...I don't know how to tell her, "Oh, you're too uninteresting...I won't be writing a story about you...I'm going to pick someone else now...Bye!"
*sighs*

Hey, you wanted random!

Yes, RANDOM!!!11 Sweet life.

Yeah, I made the terrible mistake of watching the Memoirs of a Geisha movie before reading the book. The movie was utterly awful; although I haven't read the book yet, I'll get to it [eventually].
