You know, if he's doing what we think he's doing, then I can probably appreciate it. I just wish he'd made up some new characters, so we didn't have to put up with seeing those we love so ill-used.
Unless J Whedon's brain has suddenly turned into water, (but who knows, everything is possible coming from a man who wrote students with explosive heads, :-)) I don't see any other possible explanation.
I know one of you biggest grip with season 8 is with the characters' evolution. My take on this is very different from yours, I agree that themes have probably taken precedence on characterization but not to the point where they are OOC, at least to me, but I don't mind it. And I'm pretty sure that in Angel's case especially there's a good explanation for what seems off.
It would be nice but you may be right, though worthiness wouldn't perhaps be the principal reason behind the lack of such a scene but more the fact that there're an awful lot of things left to explain in the story.Though I don't share a lot of the critics directed at the story, pacing could certainly have been better, and the choice to keep the "real meat of the sandwich' in Whedon's arc seems problematic. Joss Whedon may have some experience with comics, he does master TV timing and cut-out way better.
