My new job? They're gonna give me a hot sandwich for lunch every day! I have a soda budget, for chrissake. It's, like, a joyous occasion. Man. Hot sandwiches. Apparently they only hire like 1% of applicants, which is weird because I pretty much just showed up and said 'hi,' and got myself hired. But, this does a lot for my natural ( Read more... )

thanks, dude. i am always skeptical about zito n beane, i feel like it is just my own obscure semi-favorite pairing that everyone else is all, ew, about, but awesome that you are a fan.

Jock bio is God's gift to obsessive fangirls. I mean, really. Michigan State All-American and prized first-round pick Mark Mulder was also on the Canadians’ staff. The tall lefty was expected to be major-league ready sometime that year, but pitching at the same level, Tim was clearly miles ahead in his development.

and
The last time an A’s starter had made the [All-star] squad, Tim wasn’t shaving yet.

i know, man. zito's? it is like my bible.

i take issue with the claim that no punches were thrown in the boston bar fight! because that seriously messes with one of my favorite stories about tim hudson. and zito cowering in the corner and sucker-punching guys in the back of the neck.

also, briefly may i mention mark mulder going direct to triple-a, not pitching all that well there, getting called up the after one season, and having that wretched rookie year. i'm convinced that mulder was the last of the old-school scouted pitchers on beane's payroll, who happened to have good college stats and everything, but mainly got drafted at number two just because he looked like he should be a major league pitcher. he looks like he's not afraid of the yankees. he looks good on a baseball card.

and meanwhile, my boy goes from visalia to trip-a in four months, and gets no respect! you know he's all bitter about that.

Mulder going straight to AAA = giant crock of poo.

I mean, sure. He looks like a big-league pitcher. He tore up the Cape Cod League, but that's, like, a total of three months of real ball. MSU doesn't play in anything resembling a real conference, let alone the SEC.

You've written Zito and Mulder in Cape Cod. I think there needs to be Mulder and Hudson in AAA and all this stuff about the bonus baby not knowing how to ride buses and asking if there's, like, room service at their Motel 6.

sigh. i actually tried to write something about zito's year in the minors that culminated in vancouver, and the whole thing about how it was the first time the three of them played on the same team in the same year and yet were never in the rotation together, what with timothy getting called up early and zito not getting there until like september. but, alas, it went off the rails.

now, obviously, i have to try it again. i think the mulder point of view is the way to go. oh man. i'm excited now.

by the way, is it okay that zito/beane is becoming, like, my favorite pairing? i have this vision of the thing between them where they just bitch at each other all the time, and then fuck like bunnies. and it makes me happy. double sigh!

this comment brought to you by the cold i picked up because it is FUCKING FREEZING.
