the gypsy was right

Couple weeks ago I made some mildly clever aside along the lines that a Crosby/Harden fic set in 2011 would be angstier than the angstiest Wincest fic, and some bad-influencing anon had to go and enable me! Hmph.

have mercy )

mlb fic, harden/crosby

Oh man, this one hurts in nothing but good ways. You always give me what I didn't know I needed.

i was having a hard time trying to put into words how this piece resonated with me, because it did. then i hit refresh and thankfully this comment was there. makes so much sense.
thanks to the above for the comment. and thanks candlebeck for giving us another richie/bobby moment.

so i read this again. gave it some time to sink in and think about it more. there's something visceral between these two, so far deep in the recesses of their souls its almost easy to forget or over look what their bond is. at the same time its so real, so instinctual, so passionate, so deep rooted no matter what happens they can't shake it,even if they wanted to. it seems like harden doesn't want to remember that bond, or is too afraid to remember it. his initial denial of crosby, remembering the past differently, saying crosby was rewriting history when maybe it was himself. maybe he was afraid to go back there, where things were so different and so far away from now. where the team was really a team and not a "loose confederacy," where going to work was the best part of the day, when baseball was fun, when richie and bobby had each other. and crosby, damn. i felt for him. his whole world wrecked, returning to the last tangible thing of substace he knew before it all fell apart. maybe he was remembering things alittle differently, ( ... )

i had some trouble wrapping my head around this one too. i think richie is remembering the past incorrectly--i think he was at least a little bit in love with bobby when they were both with oakland, but of course never recognized that in the moment (because how could he?), and now he's got bobby making moves on him when it's clearly and plainly too late, and so that kinda pisses him off.

and bobby . . . bobby is just not super self-aware in this one, just kind of stumbling around in this strange baseball-less world. and yeah, i don't know what's gonna happen when richie comes home, but it will probably be depressing!

this note is awesome, though! i appreciate it much.

well, it's something of a romantic thing to say, 'let me see you' in that situation, and it causes harden to recoil because he doesn't trust that bobby actually feels that way about him, as well as being convinced that he does not feel that way about bobby, when in fact if bobby had said something like that to him the first time around, richie would have been a puddle of adoring goo. it is the timing problem that richie objects to most.

"It's okay," all slurring and imprecise, blurry grin stretching Crosby's mouth. "C'mon, let me see you."

That--Harden didn't like him saying that. It had never been like that before.

that just ... hurt. i don't even know.

--

"Hmm," Crosby murmured, and tipped his head so his buzzed hair scuffed on Harden's shoulder, and Harden took that as a yes, which in retrospect was a pretty dumb move.

Then Bobby pulled him close and licked a second sweet kiss out of his mouth, drew back far enough to breathe warmly with their foreheads together and their hearts beating at two different rates, and Bobby said, "Bye Richie."is he gonna be there when richie gets back? IS HE??!?!! /frantic ( ... )

thanks so much, man! excellent note. and yeah, bobby and richie, i don't know where all the angst comes from with these guys--or, well, i do. it is the curse of starting with a year or two of immediate dominance, and then that fading pretty much immediately into mediocrity and injury.

by which i mean to say, they were angsty first.

The game that Zito finished up? I didn't think we were going to see him the rest of the year.

This has absolutely nothing to do with anything, but have you seen Suits? I feel like it's something you could write about...
