As I said, I'm a hopeless romantic who loves the idea of love letters... particularly letters written to soldiers overseas. julietm and I have actually written a whole series of letters between high school sweetheart Callie and Colby during the time that Colby was in Afghanistan. That is where I got the idea for this fic. The letter in this fic is part of that series and contains responses to a previous letter from Colby, if some things seem to come from nowhere.

Also, the lyrics in the letter are very real. The song is by my dear friend Ron Pope. You can hear his rough cut of it, performed live from his living room, here @ YouTube. The song is also available for download from iTunes.

If you choose to read, I hope you enjoy. This is the first long fic I've written in a while and it sort of just fell from nowhere. It felt good. :)

When I first heard the song, I'd already been writing letters from Callie to Colby so I was lost in that world. I knew the song was for them. *sighs*

It's no secret that I dearly love these two, no matter what universe.

I love how you weaved in Colby's thoughts and how they pertained to how he was missing Callie...with the letter and how she was missing him at the time. I also love that you brought out just how getting her letters made him feel and how he read them over and over. I think that's so sentimental and so beautiful...and proves that their love is timeless.

This may be my most favorite thing anyone has ever said about Callie/Colby. *sighs* I'm so glad your heart is like mine - finding the beauty and sentiment in something as simple as an old letter. That's why you're my bestie (well, one of the reasons. The other being - you know too much. *wink) *hugs*
