Summary: Shou is a cautious stray who needs to be rescued.
Hiroto sat dejectedly at the table in the kitchen, mindlessly stirring the cereal in his bowl.He was thinking seriously, which was a rare thing.
It wasn't that he was stupid, he was just too happy most of the time to be serious. When had woken up, he went to ask Shou what he wanted for breakfast and found an empty bed in an empty room.Shou had neatly folded the clothes he had worn, and made up the bed.The boy had looked all around his home to see if Shou had left him a note, but no, there was nothing.Hiroto was now running over the events of the previous night in his mind.
"Did I...bother him..?" Hiroto wondered outloud, a sad pout on his mouth. He knew he could sometimes annoy people with his hyper personality, but Shou hadn't seemed annoyed. If anything, he seemed to like it.Hiroto looked down at his cereal and frowned when he realized he'd stirred it into mush.Sighing, he pushed his chair back from the table, dumped the mush in the trash and went to get ready for school.
Well..Whatever is gonna happen...is gonna happen...He told himself. It was a very simple phrase, but he used it in situations like this. But he still hoped what was going to happen would be meeting Shou again.
"So he was just gone?" A boy with brown hair perched himself on the edge of Hiroto's desk. The classroom was filled with a soft roar of laughter, talking and random noises from the students. The teacher had no arrived yet.
"Yeah. Its not like I expected him to stay or anything, but..I didn't expect him to just be gone..." Hiroto's voice trailed off.His friends exchanged glances, they were not used to seeing Serious Hiroto.
"Maybe he thought he was imposing? It sounds like you tried to do an awful lot for him last night." Nao, the oldest out of the group, said.Hiroto's leg bounced up and down, he felt even more fidgety in class than normal.
"Or maybe hes just an ungrateful basta-" The tall black haired boy, Tora, found his sentence cut off by a hand being slapped over his mouth.Saga had moved quickly from desk to desk to do so and was now giving him a What-the-hell-?-Don't-say-that-! kind of look.
"Well anyways," Nao said, trying to ignore the not so helpful words of the other boy."You may see him again..And you may not." Nao reached over and petted the younger boys head, causing him to sigh for about the 50th time that morning.
Hiroto managed a smile, his friends were trying to be helpful."Thanks." They all nodded.Nao looked at his watch and picked up the few things he had on the desk he had stolen.
"Tora-kun, we need to get to class." The other boy nodded."Yeah, I'll be right there." He told the oldest who was already up and heading for the door."I'm going to walk Saga to his class though." Nao nodded. "See you at lunch, Hiropon." He smiled and dissapeared out the door.
Tora hauled himself upright and stretched his muscles."C'mon, Saga." The black haired boy headed for the door.Saga leaned down close to Hiroto, "Don't worry about it, okay?" He poked the younger boys cheek."Your much cuter and more fun when your happy." Saga was rewarded with the sight of Hiroto's squirrely front teeth, followed by a laugh.
"Yeah, thanks." He watched Saga walk to the door, Tora leaning against the frame waiting for the other boy.He watched Tora slip his arm around the slender boys shoulders and lead him out of the room.A wishful thought passed through his mind before he waved it away.
Oh come on, he told himself, how hopeless can I get? He laughed quietly to himself as the teacher entered the room.
By the end of school that day, Hiroto's mood had greatly improved. Why?Because he had decided to try to put Shou out of his mind completely.Tora had convinced him there was no use worrying over someone he'd probably never see again.
On the way home, Hiroto listened to Saga and Nao talk about Gundam, as there wasn't much else to talk about since none of them wanted to bring up Shou and nothing interesting happened at school.Well, thats not exactly true.
"So, Hiroto.." Tora began."I heard that pretty girl, Ai, confessed to you today." The older boy smirked at Hiroto's half terrified expression."Yeah, she did." Nao and Saga exchanged glances.Hiroto was popular among the girls, but it was rare that one confessed.Almost as rare as Hiroto actually having a girlfriend.
"Well, what did you say?" Nao asked, poking the smaller boy in the side.Hiroto smiled, slightly embaressed and looked at the ground infront of him."I said...No." More exchanged glances."But shes so pretty." Saga said.
The short boy nodded."She is, but..shes not..my type." His cheeks flushed pink.An evil, cheshire-cat-like grin came onto Saga's face.So evil, infact, that Tora even removed his arm from around his shoulders and took several steps away."You like boys, don't you, Hiro-kun?" Hiroto looked terrified again and attempted to hide behind Tora.Nao gasped.
"Our little Hiroto likes boys!" Saga sniffled and wiped his eyes with an imaginary tissue."I'm so proud." The smaller boy gave his friend a slight shove."Shut up." He laughed.
"HEY!" The group stopped suddenly at the loud yell and running footsteps."COME BACK HERE, BITCH!"
Turning they saw a tall boy running as fast as he could in they're direction, with an ugly old man in pursuit.Hiroto's mouth hung open for a second or two.
"Shou-kun!" He shouted as the older boy got closer.
The boy looked at him without stopping.
Huge, brown, cat-like eyes.It was indeed Shou.
Hiroto reached out and grabbed ahold of Shou's wrist as he was about to pass them.Shou's shirt was ripped and his jeans were unzipped.Hiroto felt an unusual rage build up inside his body and faced the man, who had slowed down at the sight of other people, not wanting to get himself into trouble.
"WHAT THE FUCK," Hiroto bellowed, "DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING?" The small boy was not the type to get angry or cuss very much, if at all.But when he did, it scared everyone.
"...Nothing!I swear, I didn't..touch him!I..need to be getting home." The man turned and ran the other way.
"YOU'D BETTER FUCKING RUN!" There was an odd silence after his last yell.
He turned back to his friends and Shou, who he was still holding onto.He could fell Shou trembling.
"Shou-kun," His tone softening immediatly."Are you hurt?" Shou shook his head and stared at the ground."Okay, good.." Saga stepped foreward and took off his jacket."This should fit.." He placed it over Shou's shaking shoulders."There we go." He gave the boy a smile.
The short boy released his grip on Shou and gave him a gentle nudge on the back."Come on, Shou-kun." It was silent the rest of the way home, none of them really knowing what to say. What can you say, when you know someone in your group was probably about to get raped?
"What a dick."
Tora, apparently, could at least think of that to say.Saga elbowed him in the ribs."Ssssh." They arrived at Hiroto's house shortly."We'll...See you tommorow, Hiroto." Nao said, giving the younger boy a half hug.
Hiroto nodded and smiled at his friends."Okay, bye bye." He waved and started up the small path to his door, Shou walking infront of him.Hiroto unlocked the door and Shou followed him inside. The small boy turned and looked at Shou, unsure of what exactly to say to him.
Should he be mad?Because he wasn't.Should he hug Shou? No, that would be awkward.
So he settled on waiting for Shou to talk.Shou stared at the floor.Talking didn't look like it was going to happen soon, so Hiroto sighed and made his way to the kitchen."I'll make us a snack." He tried to sound as cheerful as possible.Shou followed him into the kitchen, watching the boy, wanting to talk to him."Do you like peaches, Shou-kun?" The small boy asked."Yes.." Was the quiet response.Hiroto pulled out the fruit and started making a smoothie."My peach smoothies are awesome!I've been told I could start a business with him." He laughed slightly, hoping to make Shou laugh too.It didn't.
Hiroto set two glasses full of his peach smoothie on the table and gestured for Shou to sit down.Shou stared at his glass while Hiroto began sipping his."I'm sorry." Hiroto raised his eyebrows, looking a little shocked."For what?" Shou played with the straw in his drink.
"For causing you so much trouble.." Hiroto gave Shou a soft smile."Its no trouble, really." Silence."Shou-kun.." Hiroto said after a few minutes."You don't have anywhere else to go, do you?" He already knew the answer.Shou tilted his head downward so that his bangs covered his eyes and shook his head.
"Why don't you stay with me?" Hiroto offered."My parents wouldn't mind if I explained the situation to them." Shou stared at the younger boy."...Stay...permanently?" Shou asked.Hiroto nodded, unable to say anything with a straw in his mouth."...Why would you do that for me?" The older boy asked.
"Your my friend." Shou frowned slightly, and Hiroto decided to try and explain."We don't know each other very well...or at all, really, I guess, but..I still consider you a friend, y'know?" Shou nodded even though he was a little confused still."Just like that..I can stay?" He asked."Yeah." The younger boy smiled widely.
Its always nice seeing a stray get adopted, but what happens afterwards? How does it ajust to its new life and the new people in it?And its new home?
We'll have to find out, won't we?
