I've been watching lots of movies, I guess

Movie/TV/Books catch up!

Start with movies, eh?

True Grit:

Freaking loved it! I'd not yet seen the original John Wayne version, and had no clue what to expect with this. Nick and I had AMC passes to use and this was legit the ONLY thing playing that we were remotely interested in. It was really so good. Jeff Bridges was amazing in it, I see why he got all the nominations he did so far and won't be surprised at all if he is nominated for an Oscar for it. The thing had me crying in places, namely where he rescues the girl from the snakes in the cave. Matt Damon was good in it, too, it's nice to see him being so versatile, and the girl, whose name escapes me, was also very good.

Black Swan:

Holy shit. This was intense, fucking CRAZY, and so gripping to watch. I am not typically a Natalie Portman fan but she blew me away with this, it's one of the most immersed, best performances I've seen since, well, since Mickey Rourke in Aronofsky's The Wrestler. This movie was thrilling and creepy as anything, me and the bffl jumped right out of our seats in quite a few places. Barbara Hershey is one overbearing mama, and the scenes between her and Portman were so perfectly strained and awkward and a bit hard to stomach at points. And god damn it, Mila Kunis is...gorgeous. Sexy. Perfect as the black to Portman's white.

The Social Network:

So, I expected to be just mildly entertained by this movie, but I am so glad I was wrong! It was so interesting and my goodness Andrew Garfield is a cutie, eh? Also, that guy that played the Winklevoss twins is one handsome dude, too, and looks SO HARVARD ALUMNI. Seriously. I took the book out of the library hours after I watched the movie :) It was fun to see live journal mentioned and on screen, too, gotta say.

Now books!

Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter:

I went on and on about it a bit, already, but know that I absolutely loved this book. I don't understand why there's no fandom for it, not at all. And it had one of the most satisfying endings, for me anyway. I was CRYING when Henry sat at Abraham's tomb, reading notes people left, but SMILING through my tears when Henry rids the world of Boothe. It was perfect. Bring on the movie!

Medium Raw:

Oh, Tony Bourdain. He is, essentially, my dream man with my dream job. Handsome, snarky, intelligent, bit of bad (reformed-ish) bad boy, who likes to drink and travel and fuck and write and eat. Told you, dream man. The book was largely a rehash of his previous stuff, but with some added stuff on his wife and kid, his rehabbed ways. It's got enough foodie dirt in it to make me question why it is I care about foodies at all, LOL, and I adore when he talks about his bffl, chef Eric Ripert :)

Outlander:

Okay, so I resisted. I did. And at first, I didn't care for it at all. But Jamie, oh, Jamie, he won me over with his hard-headed, red-headed, viking ways. Seriously, I didn't stand a chance. Claire, well, Claire is okay, but best when with Jamie. I can't say I love Gabaldon's writing, I don't at all, but some of her characters gripped me (gripped my loins, that Jamie did!).

And tv, finally:

Mad Men, season one

Halfway through. Love how gorgeous it is to look at. How understated it is at first. How handsome everyone is (God DAMN IT Christina Hendricks!!!) Can't wait to watch more.

i love all sorts of movies, read anything good lately?, rare pairings why do you taunt me so, i watch entirely too much telly
