How to survive an icy day in Massachusetts

Well, so long as you don't lose electricity, the plan in that case is to drink till you feel warm and snuggle up to the nearest warm body and see what happens. (I realize that those of my friends and family up in New Hampshire who braved the ultra shitty week long or in some cases more ice storm of epic proportions last month would have much more to say about the subject, this is just my take on one day and how to deal comfortably and happily.)

Get comfy. I happen to be wearing fleece pants and a humungously oversized sweatshirt that I stole from Nick in my favorite color of, of course, blue, to add to the happiness factor. I cranked the heat to about 70 for twenty minutes to take the chill off the house, turned it back down to the 66 degree mark as not to skyrocket the gas bill any further than it needs to be and in turn have all of favorite blankets ready. The kettle is on for tea, important for the warm factor I assure you and my favorite Tetley British Blend awaits patiently in my oldest, most uncharming mug, which, well, is also blue.

Next thing to do is to grab some movies or catch up on mindless telly. You could go with a chick flick or whatever suits you really, maybe a marathon of Life on Mars or Who or any other show you fancy. I have P.S I Love You and Kinky Boots tivoed and they are my chosen entertainment for the morning/early afternoon. I also received some Daniel Craig movie from Netflix yesterday, of which I can not remember the name right now, but I may partake in that as well, seeing how things go.

Grab some books in case you get bored or need a break. Next to my chosen spot on the sofa is Why We Suck by Denis Leary, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling and a copy of both the Kama Sutra and 1001 Places To See Before You Die. I think I have most of the bases covered.

I forgot to mention earlier, you'll want to fill the house with a nice, warm aroma. You could light some candles (great for if you do lose that power!) or maybe throw on a huge pot of some hearty stew for later, or maybe something sweet in the oven like cookies or brownies...I am laying off the sugar so I opted for the stew, cabbage and kielbasa stew to be exact and you know, it smells pretty good in here (the vinegar-y smell of the mustard I happen to find quite yummy.) And for safety and all, you know, don't light the candles or turn on the oven if you feel sleepy, we don't want a tragedy of epic proportions to ruin our relaxing day. Besides, it's icy out, and well below freezing...You want no reason to go outside at all, and I believe setting fire to wherever it is you live would mean you need to go outside, yeah? So be careful, please, okay?

Good luck, and feel free to adjust this according to whatever state/region/weather anomaly you are dealing with/living in, whatever.

Off to the sofa I go, armed with blankets, books and tea. (If you don't hear from me for awhile it's cuz I busted out the wine and have drunk myself into a stupor....)

i love all sorts of movies, food cuz i'm always hungry, i tend to babble, i watch entirely too much telly, i'd like to lick jdm from head to toe
